The Tata Tigor EV and CNG are greener and much kinder to the planet than the standard model. But it’s not that you’ll be driving them all the time to maximise efficiency. There are times when you want to drive a bit faster than usual to have some fun. So in our latest performance comparison report, we bring both cars that are kinder to mother nature for a detailed performance comparison.

Both models put out near identical power figures, but the Tigor EV is way torquier than the CNG. Plus, the Tigor EV’s motor puts its power out instantly, while you need to wind the CNG’s engine to extract its peak power and torque figures. This gives the EV an advantage over the CNG, but is that enough to win the acceleration test?

Lights out and away we go, and the Tigor CNG gets a much better start than the EV. In Drive mode, the battery-powered sedan doesn’t put out its peak output, and as a result, it did 0-100kmph in a yawning 24.56 seconds, around 6 seconds after the CNG model. Surprised by the result, we did yet another run, but in Sport mode this time.

In Sport, the EV puts out its peak numbers and as a result, is much quicker than the CNG. It launches much better this time around, and the EV crosses the line a full 11 seconds quicker when it is in Drive and 5.5 seconds quicker than the CNG. Quite evident that the EV doesn’t put out peak performance in Drive.

But during roll-on acceleration, the electric vehicle has a clear advantage over the CNG as power delivery is instantaneous. As a result, even in Sport and Drive, the EV’s proved to be quicker than the CNG.
