Expect Ducati to launch the motorcycle abroad by mid-2020

  • Ducati had unveiled the Panigale V2 at the 2019 EICMA.
  • Expect the Streetfighter V2 to get the same powertrain and underpinnings as the faired bike.
  • Like the Panigale V2, the Streetfighter V2 will also be Euro 5/BS6 compliant.
  • The CEO of Ducati, Claudio Domenicali, has hinted that a smaller-capacity version of the Streetfighter V4 is in the offing. Speaking to a media publication, he said that while the Streetfighter V4 will remain the cream of the crop, there are plans to soon bring out a similar naked motorcycle with less-extreme performance.

Interestingly, Ducati unveiled the Panigale V4’s smaller sibling, the Panigale V2, at this year’s EICMA, and the Italian bikemaker will likely bring out a naked version of this motorcycle. It could be called the Streetfighter V2 and like the Panigale V2, this motorcycle will also be Euro 5/BS6 compliant.

The Panigale V2’s 955cc Superquadro motor churns out 155PS and 104Nm -- 5PS and 2Nm more than the Panigale 959. Expect the Streetfighter V2 to employ the same motor in the same state of tune. Ducati is also likely to equip the naked with the same set of electronics, highlights of which include a six-axis IMU, Ducati Traction Control, wheelie control and engine brake control.

The upcoming motorcycle could also use the same underpinnings -- 43mm fully adjustable Showa Big Piston Fork (BPF) at the front and a fully adjustable Sachs monoshock at the rear. Brakes include dual 320mm discs with Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers up front and a 245mm rear disc, with cornering ABS.

Coming to the expected price, the difference between the Panigale V4 and the Streetfighter V4 is GBP 2,400, so applying the same logic to the Panigale V2 and the Streetfighter V2, the naked motorcycle is likely to cost around GBP 12,600 (approximately Rs 11.87 lakh). Since Domenicali has mentioned that it will come soon, we expect the motorcycle to be launched in the international market by mid-2020. Expect the Italian brand to launch the bike in India a few months after its international launch.

It will go up against the Triumph Street Triple RS, Yamaha MT-09 and 2020 Kawasaki Z900.
