With anticipation for the 2021 Hayabusa already sky high thanks to a teaser video from last week, the first leaked image of the bike seems to have emerged. Lifted from a promotional video, it reassures us that the upcoming ‘Busa will retain the iconic bulbous silhouette of its legendary predecessors. The massive front screen, voluptuous fuel tank and curvy tail section live on, but the fairing seems to have taken on a new double layer design, with strakes running between the layers. Whether this is for heat management or downforce, or both, only time will tell.
Another very apparent change is to the exhaust system, which, though still quite large, sports a neat and edgy design that helps mask some of its bulk. This will be a major talking point for the 2021 Hayabusa because the bike is expected to make the leap to Euro 5/BS6 emission norms, which will allow it to re-enter key markets like Europe and India. How Suzuki will achieve this, is still not clear.
Some rumours suggest forced induction (turbocharging or supercharging), a technology that Suzuki has already shown interest in with its Recursion concept. Others believe that the engine will continue to be naturally-aspirated, but grow to over 1400cc in displacement, in an attempt to retain output figures while cleaning up emissions. All will be revealed in just a few days’ time when the 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa is officially revealed.
