Find out which is the better scrambler for you

The Royal Enfield Bear 650 offers more power than the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, but with shorter suspension travel. Here's a breakdown of their key differences. Let's compare the two motorcycles to see what sets them apart.

Engine

The Royal Enfield Bear 650 is powered by a 648cc parallel-twin, air-cooled engine, producing 47.6PS at 7,250rpm and 56.5Nm at 5,150rpm. In contrast, the Scrambler 400 X is equipped with a 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, generating 40PS  at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. Both motorcycles feature a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch. The Bear 650 also stands out with its two-into-one exhaust system, featuring blacked-out heat shields for a more aggressive look.

Chassis and Suspension

The Bear 650 is built on a steel tubular double cradle frame, while the Triumph Scrambler 400 X uses a hybrid spine/perimeter frame made from tubular steel. When it comes to suspension, the Bear 650 features 130mm of front wheel travel from its inverted front fork and 115mm of rear wheel travel from its twin shock absorbers. The Scrambler 400 X, on the other hand, offers 150mm of wheel travel at both ends, with an inverted front fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear.

Brakes and Tyres

In terms of braking, the Bear 650 uses a 320mm front disc and a 270mm rear disc, while the Scrambler 400 X has a 320mm front disc and a smaller 230mm rear disc. Both bikes come with switchable dual-channel ABS and sport 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. The Bear 650 rides on spoked wheels wrapped in MRF Nylorex tyres, while the Scrambler 400 X uses alloy wheels with MRF Zapper Kurve tyres.

Dimensions

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X uses taller suspension units, resulting in a seat height of 835mm—5mm higher than the Bear 650. The Scramber 400 X also offers a greater ground clearance of 195mm (vs 184mm) and is 31kg lighter (185kg vs 216kg). However, the Bear 650 holds a larger fuel capacity of 13.7 litres (vs 13 litres) and has a longer wheelbase, measuring 1,460mm (vs 1,418mm).

Features and Technology

Both motorcycles come with all-LED lighting, ride-by-wire throttle, and a USB charging port. However, their instrument clusters differ significantly. The Royal Enfield Bear 650 features a round TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and Google Maps navigation. In comparison, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X has a semi-digital console, with an analogue speedometer and an LCD display for a fuel gauge, tachometer, gear position indicator, and trip information.

Price and Availability

The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is priced at Rs 2.64 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Royal Enfield Bear 650’s prices range from Rs 3.39 lakh to Rs 3.59 lakh (ex-showroom).
