The Triumph Scrambler 400X and the Thruxton 400 have been spotted testing, and the bikes have received many changes to make them more compelling to customers. Let’s have a detailed look at the bikes and the changes they received.

Triumph Scrambler 400X

The Triumph Scrambler 400X was launched in 2023, it was spied testing before its official launch with spoke wheels but it was launched with alloy wheels instead. The motorcycle has been spotted testing again and this time around, it gets cross-spoked tubeless wheels. The new wheels mean that the Scrambler 400X will become more off-road capable than it already is. Triumph may also offer the tubeless spoke wheels as an option to buy to the existing customers of the Scrambler 400X in India. The test mule also gets an engine guard which will protect the engine in case of a fall. Apart from the new wheels, the other observable changes is the new front beak and a taller flyscreen, both of which are available as an optional accessory.

Apart from these changes, the motorcycle remains unchanged. It is powered by a 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which makes 40PS and 37.5Nm, and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. It gets an inverted telescopic fork and a preload adjustable monoshock with a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel setup.

Expected Mechanical Changes

Triumph may also increase the suspension travel of the Scrambler 400X to make it a proper go-anywhere motorcycle just like its elder sibling, the Scrambler 1200 X. Along with the increased suspension travel, the Scrambler 400X may receive a revised engine map as many customers have complained that the first gear on the Scrambler 400X is very short, making it a little too aggressive for the city. To solve this issue, Triumph may revise the engine tune, and change the sprockets or the gear ratios. An important update that we feel Triumph needs to make to the Scrambler is the use of sintered brake pads as standard. The organic pads that are currently offered do not offer a good bite and also have a very short lifespan. For now, these expected updates are just speculations so we will have to wait for an official reveal to confirm any of these details.

Triumph Thruxton 400

The Triumph Thuruxton 400 which has been spotted testing looks similar to the Speed Triple 1200 RR and draws its design inspiration from the bigger model. The motorcycle has been spotted testing in India quite a few times. It gets frame-mounted faring, clip-on handlebars, rear-set footpegs, and bar-end mirrors to accentuate its cafe-racer look. The latest spied model though has a single seat with a cowl in place of the rear seat. The rear cowl not only looks quite appealing but could improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the motorcycle and could be offered as an optional accessory.

Both the motorcycles that have been spotted testing look production-ready. The position of the Scrambler 400X with the tubeless spoke wheels is unclear as to whether it will be offered as a variant or the tubeless spoke wheels will be offered as an accessory to the existing customers. Even if launched as a new variant, we feel Triumph should offer these wheels to existing Scrambler 400X owners.

The Thruxton 400 though, has been spotted testing multiple times in India which hints that the motorcycle could launch sooner than we anticipate, most likely in the second half of 2025. Once launched, the Thruxton 400 will sit right in between the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X in India.
