Vision S gets a boxy silhouette
Interior gets two connected touchscreen displays and vertical AC vents
Expected to borrow diesel and petrol engines from the XUV 3XO
Likely to be revealed in India by the third quarter of 2026
Mahindra has been working on a new sub-4m SUV, which was named the Vision S Concept, and it was showcased last year. Ever since then, the new SUV has been spotted under test, being fully camouflaged multiple times. The Vision S SUV is expected to be under 4 metres in length and could be a replacement for the Mahindra Bolero Neo. Though you might have seen many spy shots, a new video has surfaced online, recorded recently in Manali, that gives a very clear view of the exterior design and a sneak peek of the interior as well. Mahindra seems to have taken the job of offering a robust SUV under the 4 metres segment very seriously.
Let’s take a look at what the new video of the Mahindra Vision S shows us:
The latest video gives us a clear look at the exterior profile and stance of the Vision S despite heavy camouflage. The model seen here is most likely the top-of-the-line variant. The front fascia of the Vision S can be seen boasting a raised bonnet and a grille with vertical slats, which is expected to house the Mahindra logo in the centre. From what is seen in the video, the headlights have a circular shape and house LED projectors with an LED foglight integrated in the front bumper.

From the side, the Vision S SUV can be seen running on 18-inch alloy wheels, which look similar to those previously used on the XUV700. Keen observers will also notice flush door handles and a rugged body cladding to give it a macho appearance. The windows are large and squarish to match the overall silhouette aesthetic.

At the rear, the design is bulky and squared off, which is complemented by slim taillights and a relatively smaller rear bumper. What can also be understood is that the tailgate will open sideways as it houses the spare wheel on it, just like the Bolero and Bolero Neo models.

We also get to see a bit of the interior in the video, and it can be seen that the dashboard layout is quite similar to the concept model. The dashboard can be seen sporting a dual-screen touchscreen infotainment system and vertical AC vents, and if you observe closely, you will realise that the steering wheel is a two-spoke unit that we have already seen on some other Mahindra cars as well.

The Vision S SUV is also referred to as the Next-Gen Bolero, and Mahindra has made every possible effort to make it look similar. Buyers should expect an overall length of under 4 metres for tax benefits. But as it can be seen, the rear wheels have been pushed a lot more behind to increase the wheelbase, which will ultimately result in a spacious cabin. The Bolero and Bolero Neo have always struggled in providing modern-day features and a comfortable ride quality, but with the Vision S SUV, Mahindra is expected to work on all of these factors, making it appeal to a wider audience. Mahindra has equipped all its current products with the best features and ride quality, and the upcoming Vision S will be no different.

The SUV is expected to borrow its engine from the XUV 3XO, offering a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. We also expect the Vision S SUV to carry a robust yet modern exterior design, and what is also speculated is that the production spec model after launch could be named ‘Bolero’, as in a new generation of the old-school SUV.
Mahindra is expected to reveal the production-ready version of the Vision S Concept by the third quarter of the year, i.e. during the festive season. The official launch will follow soon after. In terms of pricing, Mahindra is expected to price the Vision S SUV very competitively under the price bracket of Rs. 9 lakh to 16 lakh (ex-showroom).

Once launched, the Vision S SUV will take on multiple sub-4m SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Skoda Kylaq, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and its in-house sibling, the Mahindra XUV 3XO. While all other cars are sophisticated urban cars, the Vision S is expected to boast a more commanding road presence, which could be one of its key USPs.
With testing already underway, Mahindra’s Vision S SUV is shaping up to be a capable and versatile addition to its lineup. It could bridge the gap between practical, sophisticated sub-4m vehicles and a rugged SUV in the same segment, but with a stronger road presence, giving Indian buyers a taste of raw SUV feel without having to compromise on features, comfort, and safety.
We feel that both the Bolero and Bolero Neo never found prominent buyers in today's urban cities, with customers demanding more and more from their car, but Mahindra’s new move could change that. Offering the same old-school design with a modern-day touch, and if it is priced and marketed right, this could be the brand’s next smart experiment – though only time will tell how it plays out.
