The patented silhouette is largely the same as the concept shown in Auto Expo 2025, except for some more prominent details revealed this time.

The Tata Sierra, which once earned a cult following in the 90s despite a brief presence, is once again on the verge of being brought back to Indian roads. Its ICE concept was showcased at the Auto Expo 2025 in an almost production-ready avatar, giving us a glimpse of its five-door setup. But we’ve dug deeper and uncovered something even more intriguing – a patent filing with the Intellectual Property India division, revealing the production-ready design. And from what we see, there are some key differences from the concept version. Curious? We’ll be exploring that in detail.

Tata Sierra Design: What’s Different?

The patented design of the Tata Sierra remains largely unchanged from the concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2025. It retains key elements such as the Sierra lettering below the bonnet, a full-width plastic panel on the fascia, and an air intake channel beneath it. The rectangular headlights and fog lamp housings also carry over from the concept. This is most likely the Sierra ICE production-spec design.

The most visible change is the horizontal slats for the large air dam in the bumper, replacing the design seen in the concept. While the Auto Expo model featured chrome accents and a ribbed silver skid plate, the latter detail is still present in the patented design.

Additionally, the production version, in its profile, sports a new alloy wheel design with petal-like elements, while the body cladding and C-pillar appear more pronounced. When looked closely, the ORVMs could be found equipped with a 360-degree camera setup. The flush door handles follow in this version as well, and the roof rails are found missing.

While this patent silhouette doesn’t exactly give us a glimpse into the rear design of the Sierra from what we saw in the concept, it features sleek, full-width LED taillamps and a silver skid plate on the bumper.

Tata Sierra Expected Features And Powertrain

The Tata Sierra will feature a floating three-screen setup that spans the entire dashboard, a first for Tata cars. The cabin will also have contrasting yellow accents, sleek AC vents, and a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo. The Sierra is expected to be equipped with a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats with ventilation and multi-colour ambient lighting.

On the safety front, the Sierra is likely to come with up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera and ADAS.

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the Tata Sierra ICE is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine producing 170 PS. It will get a diesel engine option as well, likely to be a 1.5-litre unit. There is also a Sierra.ev on the cards, which will be launched after the ICE version.

Tata Sierra Expected Price And Rivals

The Tata Sierra is expected to carry a starting price of around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions it as a competitor to popular SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate and MG Astor.

The Sierra already had a lot of eyes upon it, owing to its once legendary status. That said, its new design and expected offerings look promising to live up to the expectations being mounted around it.

What do you think, will the Sierra be a formidable contender to the popular SUV segment on our shores now? Let us know in the comments below.
