Switching to an EV is like taking a leap of faith for most buyers, but JSW MG Motor India wants to change that with its upcoming products that will employ several degrees of electrification to close the gap.
For this, the carmaker has developed a new platform, called ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), with BEV, EV, PHEV and strong-hybrid, and we now have the details on what it’s like, so let’s take a look:
ADAPT or Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology is a flexible new platform with capabilities across body styles and technologies. Some of its highlights include:
10-in-1 Electric Drive Unit
Multiple Powertrain Capabilities including Self-charging Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), Range Extender EV (REEV) and even the fully-electric BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle).
A first-ever Electromagnetic DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission), with an electromagnetic clutch, which is four times faster than the hydraulic unit used conventionally.
An Intelligent Battery Management System

These qualities could help make it one of the most complex and advanced platforms on sale in the mass market and may help make the brand a pioneer in the Hybrid space that is currently ruled by Maruti and Toyota.
While the carmaker is yet to reveal exact details of the models that this new platform will underpin, we expect to see these technologies for the first time with the upcoming MG Starlight 560, which is slated to launch later this year. Furthermore, the carmaker has announced that there will be another model based on this platform, which will debut this year.

Besides this, the carmaker is gearing up for a slew of launches, including the next-generation ZS EV, which could be based on the global MG S5, and likely also the MG IM5, which is expected to be sold via the brand’s MG Select dealership network.
EVs are becoming popular, and quickly. But there still remain some major obstructions, such as dedicated parking spots for charging and the still-growing public charging infrastructure. With these in place, MG seems to be doing the right move by helping buyers move gradually and offering alternatives that combine the best of both ICE and EV worlds.
That said, we wish the brand had revealed a bit more detail, giving us a clearer look at what’s to come. We wait eagerly to know what the brand’s future products have in store and if they will actually end up dominating the NEV space in the Indian mass market.
What are your thoughts on this new platform? Do you think it can bridge the gap between ICE and EV? Let us know in the comments below!
