Mahindra dropped quite the bombshell this Independence Day with the Vision.S concept, a boxy, bright yellow SUV that looked like it was ready to roll straight into the wild.
The reveal gave us plenty of eye candy, but now that we’ve spent more time poring over the details, we’ve pieced together a better picture of what this rugged little machine might be all about.
Here’s what you might've missed noticing about the Vision.S Concept:
There’s nothing shy about the front of the Vision S. Triple LED stacks sit tall on each side, connected by a big grille that proudly wears the Twin Peaks badge. Those inverted L-shaped DRLs? You’ll spot them a mile away.

Down below, the chunky bumper looks like it’s hiding a radar unit, hinting at fancy driver-assistance tech in the future. And then there’s the off-road theatre, bonnet-mounted limb risers, roof spotlights, all the stuff that makes you want to head for the hills.
Realistically, some of these bits might not make the production cut, but they definitely set the tone.
From the side, the Vision S gives off proper “ready-for-anything” energy. The tall ride height, squared wheel arches, and beefy cladding make it look like it could shrug off bad roads without breaking a sweat.

Those 19-inch alloys, complete with red brake callipers, are more sporty than you’d expect on something this boxy. The flush door handles and slim camera mirrors modernise the look, while the roof ladder and jerry can mount are pure concept-car drama. Imagine pulling up to a campsite in this, instant street cred!

Spin it around, and the story continues. The inverted L-shaped tail-lamps echo the front DRLs, giving it a signature that works day and night.

Pixel-style lighting in the bumper keeps the future-friendly vibe going, while the tailgate-mounted spare wheel feels reassuringly old-school.

And that upright rear stance? There’s a faint whiff of Bolero Neo (apart from Defender, of course) in there, which feels like Mahindra’s way of reminding us this isn’t their first tough SUV.
Underneath all that style is Mahindra’s new NU_IQ platform. Think of it as a Lego base that can be stretched for different sizes and body styles, sub-4 metre SUVs, slightly bigger ones, electric, hybrid, maybe more.

The flat floor means more cabin space, the 2,665 mm wheelbase and short overhangs mean there’s room to stretch inside, and the stance suggests decent approach and departure angles for tackling tougher terrain.
The Vision S may be a concept today, but it’s already got a clear personality. It has been confirmed that this would be the first one to be launched from the current lot of Visions.

It is the design that mixes Mahindra’s old-school ruggedness with modern tech and design details. Whether the roof ladder, camera mirrors, and pixel lamps survive the transition to a production SUV is uncertain, but if Mahindra keeps the spirit intact, we might just have one of the most exciting small SUVs in the making.
