In 2024, Mahindra launched the XEV 9e and BE 6 electric SUVs, and this year is now the turn for the XEV 7e, or the all-electric version of the XUV700. The electric SUV has now been spotted testing, strengthening the fact that it is about to be launched in the country. Sources tell us the XEV 7e is expected to be launched in India before the end of 2025, probably sometime in November 2025.
The test unit, which has been spied, looks similar to the XUV700 and sports camouflage, but is seen charging at a DC Fast Charger, confirming it is the electric iteration.
The XEV 7e’s design will be an amalgamation of the XUV700 and the XEV 9e. While it will look quite similar to the XUV700 overall, it will borrow the design of the headlamps, DRLs and the fascia from the XEV 9e (which is essentially the coupe SUV version of the XEV 7e).
Of course, the XEV 7e will have aero covers for the alloy wheels for better range and aerodynamics. But it will still have the same pop-up style door handles, the same ORVMs, and the same silhouette, too. However, expect the XEV 7e to have a slightly different taillamp design than the XUV700.

Another differentiating factor in the XEV 7e will be the location of the charging port. On the XEV 9e, the port is placed on the rear left of the tailgate, while on the XEV 7e, it’ll be on the rear left fender where the XUV700 has its fuel filler cap. Like the XEV 9e and BE 6, the XEV 7e will also get a charging status indicator inside the charging port area.
Mahindra XEV 7e is likely to debut with new colour options to differentiate itself from the XUV700. Also, the XEV 7e might get connected LED taillamps and Mahindra’s new infinity logo seen on its new electric SUVs.
Unsurprisingly, the XEV 7e is likely to borrow the cabin design and layout from the XEV 9e. Expect it to come with a triple screen layout, the new twin-spoke illuminated steering wheel, new gear lever and more. Even the seats will be the ones used in the XEV 9e, and the XEV 7e is also expected to come with 6- and 7-seater options. The XEV 7e could likely come with sliding second-row seats.

Through spy shots, we can confirm that the XEV 7e is supposed to get a triple-screen layout as seen on the XEV 9e. We expect it to come with the same 12.3-inch units for the driver’s display, the infotainment touchscreen and a third touchscreen for the front passenger.
It is also likely to come with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon speaker system with Dolby Atmos, illuminated panoramic roof, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charger, ventilated seats and more.

Mahindra has been known to ace crash test ratings, and the XEV 9e is currently among the top two highest-scoring vehicles tested by Bharat NCAP.
We expect nothing less than a stellar rating for the XEV 7e, too, in any crash test. It will also likely come with six airbags as standard (seven on the top trim), electronic stability control, three-point seatbelts with reminders, a 360-degree camera and also level 2 ADAS.

It’s unlikely Mahindra will have new powertrains for the XEV 7e. It will most probably come with the same 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs and an electric motor on the rear axle. It’s not confirmed yet, but it’ll be amazing to have a dual-motor setup on the XEV 7e for better performance and all-around ability.
We expect Mahindra to price the XEV 7e aggressively, maybe around the Rs 25 lakh mark.
The XEV 7e will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Harrier EV and BYD Atto 3. However, none of them has the option of three-row seating.

Mahindra has tasted success in a decent capacity with the XEV 9e and BE 6, and so has Tata Motors with the Harrier EV. Mahindra has had only coupe SUVs in this segment and it’s missing a regular electric SUV. The XEV 7e could probably double up Mahindra’s EV sales as it makes for a lot of sense for India.
India is a country where function follows form and even though the other two Mahindra EVs have been successful, the XEV 7e is something people will want. Indian love SUVs, and Indian also love ferrying their family around in one car (no wonder the Ertiga and Innova, and the even the XUV700, are so popular, even in the passenger vehicle segment). For those looking for an electric SUV to carry their family of seven around had to compromise and get the BYD eMax 7 and the XEV 7e should help change that.
