Mahindra XEV 9S: The Perfect SUV For Your Garage

Mahindra has branded its XEV 9S, “The Big New Electric”, as it is a three-row, all-electric SUV with a new design, underpinned by the INGLO platform. It is available from a starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), with a total of six variants in all, with the highest variant “Pack Three Above” with a 79 kWh battery costing Rs 29.45 lakh (ex-showroom). While bookings start from January 14, 2026, the deliveries will commence from January 23, 2026. 

Having said that, the brief to the Mahindra designers was simple: the SUV needs to offer ample space, performance, and technology for their XEV 9S to genuinely be a model that would be sufficient for a large family as their perfect SUV for the garage.

Design And Space: A Proper Big SUV

The XEV 9S aligns with Mahindra's Heartcore Design ideology, which prefers low, clutter-free surfaces, a planted stance, and a spacious cabin. There is a very SUV-like profile, with a tall nose, prominent shoulder line, chunky tyres, and aerodynamically optimised 18-inch wheels.

These figures reinforce the “big” statement, as it has a cargo space of 4,076 litres for the first and second rows, along with 527 litres for the trunk, plus 150 litres for the frunk area in the engine bay. The third row has a 50:50 split, with a 60:40 split for the second row, which has multiple reclining positions. This configuration can be adjusted for passengers as well as cargo, as needed.

Triple Screens And High-End Tech Inside

The “Coast-to-coast” configuration for the triple-screen displays remains one of the most popular features of XEV 9S. Available as standard across all variants, it features three 12.3-inch displays combined in a single horizontal panel consisting of a driver information screen, an infotainment screen, and a third screen for use by passengers. 

This comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon technology, and the highest variant of this pack offers a superior setup of 8295 with 24 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. The infotainment offer in this vehicle supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 5G connectivity, OTT, social, news, and shopping apps, and many other features related to smart cars like cabin cooling, scheduled charging, and remote operation using Me4U.

Comfort And Everyday Usability

Audio in the higher models is taken care of by a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos and Mahindra’s Sonic Studio tuning. The list of luxurious features also includes dual wireless charging pads with ones in the front and second row, a host of 65W USB-C ports, as well as ambient lighting that offers 16 million colours, including in the panoramic “Skyroof” that tops the range of features.

Mahindra has definitely incorporated the second row as a highlight feature. The list of features that Mahindra offers in this segment includes second-row sliding reclining seats, powered "Boss Mode" adjustment in the higher variants, ventilated second-row and first-row seats in the highest variants, and a fold-out snack tray behind the co-driver’s seat, are a few that stand out.

The comfort experience gets boosted with features like sun shades for the second-row windows, laminated acoustic glass, and a lounge-style centre console with cooling.

The climate control system also comes with rear AC vents and numerous intelligent driving modes, including specialised ones named "PawPal" for pets and "CampMe" for camping. The list of convenience features includes auto head lamps, rain-sensing wipers, driver and passenger dual-fold and dual-tilt ORVMs.

Safety, ADAS, And Driver Assistance

All models of the XEV 9S feature a high-stiff body shell, disc brakes for all four wheels, brake-by-wire with electronic brake booster, and electronic parking brake. Two multiple packs are standard with six airbags, but in the highest specification, it rises to seven airbags, with this extra airbag being a driver knee airbag.

Depending on the package, Mahindra provides Level 2 and Level 2+ automated driving capabilities. Included in this suite are features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, lane centring, emergency steering support, blind spot monitoring, forward and reverse cross traffic alert, and automated lane change. The upgraded packages also feature a 360-degree camera, a blind spot monitor, and parking assistance.

The driver monitoring features are being done through Mahindra's Eyedentity technology, which would be able to identify lack of attention and driver sleepiness in addition to other tasks, whereas other features in technology are VisionX, which is a form of augmented reality head-up display. The technology features of Secure360 also comprise live viewing, recording, and communication.

Battery Options, Performance, And Range

The Mahindra XEV 9S is powered by Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard architecture. There are three battery options available for purchase: 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh packs. Power output also depends on which battery variant you purchase. And going by the numbers in the table below, it is safe to claim that the XEV 9S is one of the most powerful electric SUVs available in this segment. Mahindra claims a 0 –100 kmph in 7 seconds, along with a top speed of 202 kmph.

The range in real-world conditions has been estimated to be around 500+ km on a single charge for the larger pack, owing to a superior LFP battery with a “lifetime warranty”. The support for DC fast charging takes 20-80 per cent of a charge in around 20 minutes, with proper charging hardware, with a peak of 180 kW for the 79 kWh battery, and 140-160 kW for the smaller packs.

The chassis package features Mahindra’s iLink front suspension and five-link independent rear suspension, with brake-by-wire technology and frequency-dependent damping in larger packs. The goal is to provide a soft and silent EV ride experience with sufficient body control for highway driving.

Mahindra offers the XEV 9S in six trims, with the base model having a 59 kWh battery, beginning from Rs 19.95 lakhs, while the top-of-the-line version, which has a 79 kWh battery, costs Rs 29.45 lakhs.
