Mahindra XEV 9S Launch Tomorrow: Here’s What You Can Expect

It’s almost time. The first-ever 7-seat electric SUV from Mahindra, called the XEV 9S, is set to be launched in India tomorrow at the carmaker’s ‘Scream Electric’ event. We already have a fair idea about what to expect in terms of its design inside and out, thanks to the numerous teaser videos shared by Mahindra on its social media accounts. In this story, we have rounded up everything that you need to know about the electric SUV in case you plan to buy it:

A Thing Of Beauty

Based on the details observed in the teasers, one thing is for sure: the Mahindra XEV 9S will have a striking design, thanks to its modern ‘Born Electric’ design language. Design highlights include a full-width LED light bar, L-shaped LED DRLs, a triangular LED headlight setup, aerodynamically designed alloy wheels, and LED taillights (with tweaked internal lighting elements).

Being a 7-seater SUV, it has similar design touches in the form of flush-fitting door handles and a kink in the window line near the C-pillar. Expect Mahindra to offer the XEV 9S with chunky silver-finished skid plates to add to its muscular appearance, and possibly with newer colour choices as well to further set it apart.

Premium On The Inside Too!

The Mahindra XEV 9S looks premium not only on the outside but also has an upmarket cabin as well. It will borrow many elements from the XEV 9e, such as the two-spoke steering wheel, the three displays atop the dashboard, and even the dual-tone cabin theme. There’s also another feature that will be common for the XEV 9S and the XEV 9e, which was confirmed in one of the latest teasers. While the XEV 9S has been confirmed as a 7-seater offering for now, we won’t rule out the possibility of Mahindra opting for a 6-seat layout for the electric SUV at a later date.

Other equipment on board will likely include a tri-zone climate control, a Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, multi-colour ambient lighting, and multiple wireless phone chargers.

The expected set of safety tech comprises up to 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC), and even Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Details Of Its Platform

It is based on the same INGLO electric-first skateboard architecture, which also underpins the futuristic-looking BE 6 and XEV 9e EVs from the Indian carmaker. Thanks to the INGLO platform, we may also get an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of the XEV 9S.

Powertrain Options

Details about the XEV 9S’s battery pack and electric motor specifications are yet to be revealed, but we expect it to get the same powertrain choices as the XEV 9e. The detailed specifications are as follows:

*RWD- Rear-wheel drive

The XEV 9S, like the XEV 9e, will also have a single electric motor on offer. Do note that we have mentioned the claimed range of the XEV 9e here, as we believe the XEV 9S will have similar figures. So, realistically, the XEV 9S should be able to deliver a range of almost 500 km. Mahindra could also likely give the XEV 9S a dual-motor option with a lot more power as well.

Expected Price And Competition

Mahindra is expected to price the XEV 9S from Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. While it will square off against the upcoming Tata Safari EV, it will also serve as a 7-seater all-electric alternative to 5-seat EVs like the BYD Atto 3 and Mahindra XEV 9e. Due to its expected price range, it will also take on the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
