To make it more appealing, MG launched the Pro variant of the Windsor EV with a bigger battery pack, offering more range. However, its pricing now places it in the segment where electric SUVs also compete, including the EL Pro variants of the Mahindra XUV400 EV. Should you choose the Windsor for its practicality or pick the XUV400 for its SUV form factor? Find out as we compare both EVs closely.
Model |
MG Windsor EV Pro |
Mahindra XUV400 EL Pro |
Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 17.49 lakh (without Baas) Rs 12.49 lakh + Rs 4.5/km (with Baas) |
Rs 16.94 lakh to Rs 17.69 lakh |
Comparing the pricing of the MG Windsor Pro as a whole with the Mahindra XUV400 EL Pro, the starting price difference is Rs 55,000. However, this is if you choose the 34.5 kWh battery pack with the XUV400 EL Pro. If you pick the XUV400 EL Pro with the larger 39.4 kWh battery pack, the prices are identical to the Windsor EV Pro.
That said, MG also offers the Windsor Pro with its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan, where you will have to pay an additional Rs 4.5 per kilometre over the Rs 12.49 lakh starting price, making it a more affordable option.

The Windsor EV, because of its crossover form factor, overall turns out to be a larger vehicle. Over the XUV400 EV, the Windsor offers more interior space with its larger wheelbase, while its greater height and width as well will probably contribute to its better road stability. That said, the width and height of the XUV400 are short by 29 mm and 43 mm respectively.

When it comes to features, the Windsor EV packs a well-rounded cabin. For added convenience, it offers niceties like a powered driver’s seat, a larger infotainment system, a digital key, and reclining rear seats. It also comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing you to use it as a power source, a handy feature during road trips or emergencies.
On the safety front, the Windsor also gets the advantage of Level-2 ADAS, something the XUV400 does not offer. That said, both EVs come equipped with six airbags and useful safety tech like a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Even though the Windsor Pro comes equipped with a bigger battery pack, it falls short on performance when compared to the XUV400 EL Pro. The same goes for their claimed range as well. That said, the difference is not very significant.
To conclude, the Windsor EV Pro overall turns out to be a very appealing choice over the Mahindra XUV400 EL Pro. It offers a better set of features that will enhance your overall ownership experience, whilst providing more comfort in terms of space as well.
In contrast, if your sole requirement is to extract maximum performance from your EV, the XUV400 EL Pro becomes the better pick of the two. However, when it comes to range, the difference between both is quite minimal, making the Windsor EV a strong contender.
