MG Windsor Pro vs Tata Nexon EV: Which EV Is The Right Choice For You?

Since its launch, the MG Windsor has been quite a popular choice amongst buyers looking to buy an EV under Rs 15 lakh. MG has now introduced the Pro variant of Windsor, which gets a bigger battery pack offering more range. But does it fare better against the Tata Nexon EV? Although not a direct rival, the Nexon EV does offer an SUV alternative to the Windsor. Let’s delve further and find out how they both compare on paper.

Price

Since the Windsor EV is offered with MG's battery rental service, it undercuts the Nexon EV by about Rs 1.50 lakh. However, if you opt for the Windsor Pro with the BaaS (Battery as a Service) plan, you will have to pay an additional Rs 4.5 per kilometre. Notably, if you compare the price of the Windsor Pro without BaaS, the Nexon EV 45 kWh variants start around Rs 3.5 lakh lower.

Dimensions

The Windsor is overall a larger vehicle than the Nexon EV in every sense, while the latter remains a sub-4m electric SUV offering. Thanks to its bigger dimensions, the Windsor also offers better interior space and boasts greater luggage space as well. Compared to the Nexon EV, the Windsor further benefits from a stronger road presence due to its greater width and height. 

Features

In terms of features as well, the Windsor EV offers a well-equipped cabin overall. Convenience-wise, it gets amenities like a powered driver's seat, a bigger infotainment system, a digital key, and reclining seats. The Windsor also offers Level-2 ADAS for enhanced safety, which the Nexon EV misses out on. However, the Nexon EV has been crash-tested by Bharat NCAP, where it secured a 5-star rating. Other than that, both EVs are head-to-head in terms of features.

Powertrain Specifications

Powertrain-wise, the Nexon EV steps ahead of the Windsor Pro, despite the latter being offered with a larger battery pack. The Nexon EV not only delivers better power output but also offers a higher claimed range than the Windsor Pro. However, the difference is not significant.

To conclude, both EVs have their own strengths. The Windsor offers better practicality, more interior space, and additional convenience features. On the other hand, while the Nexon EV may miss out on some convenience tech, it delivers stronger performance and comes at a lower price.

Ultimately, the choice depends on your preferences and usage. If you are looking for a more family-oriented EV, the Windsor Pro could be the better pick. However, if performance is your main priority, the Nexon EV can be your ideal choice. Additionally, due to its smaller form factor, it could be easier to maneuver through city traffic as well.
