The MG ZS EV was among the first compact electric SUVs in our market, offering an affordable alternative not only to its direct rivals but also to models like the BYD Atto 3. Recently, the Atto 3 received model-year updates, reigniting its rivalry with the ZS EV. But do these enhancements make it a compelling choice over the ZS EV, or is it wiser to opt for the ZS EV and save some money?
Find out as we compare both electric SUVs in terms of their specs, features, and pricing.

Additionally, its greater width will contribute to improved stability at higher speeds. That said, the ZS EV is taller than the Atto 3 by almost 35 mm.

With the BYD Atto 3, you have the option to choose between two battery packs: a 50 kWh and a 60 kWh unit. Although the former is similar in capacity to the ZS EV's 50.3 kWh battery pack, it delivers better power output and a higher claimed range. Moreover, both electric SUVs support DC fast charging, enabling them to charge from zero to 80 percent in about an hour.

The MG ZS EV undercuts the BYD Atto 3 by around Rs 11 lakh with MG's battery-as-a-service program. Under this scheme, you do not have to pay for the entire vehicle upfront but instead are charged Rs 4.5 per kilometre driven as a rental fee for the battery. Even if you purchase the vehicle as a whole, there is still a price difference of around Rs 7 lakh.

Apart from being an alternative to the Atto 3, the ZS EV locks horns with the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, and the Mahindra BE 6.
On paper, the BYD Atto 3 seems like a no-brainer choice over the ZS EV. It not only offers multiple powertrain options but also delivers better range and power output. Additionally, it features a better-equipped cabin than the ZS EV. However, the ZS EV justifies this with its lower starting price. While you do have to pay extra for battery rental, it covers all the essentials while keeping convenience in check.
