A station wagon with go-anywhere ability never ceases to amaze. But Audi makes it appear simple and the new Audi A6 All-Road Quattro is testimony to this. The third edition of the popular station wagon will hit UK streets by spring, and there's already sufficient buzz around the car. Available in three engine options - a 3.0 TFSI that churns out 310PS of power, a 3.0 TDI with a maximum power of 204PS and a more powerful 3.0 TDI that puts out a thumping 245 PS. Add to this the four-level adaptive air suspension as standard and its electronic ‘brain’ and this car has enough brawn to actually go anywhere.

The first two generations of the all-road Quattro launched in 2000 and 2006 met with considerable success and Audi hopes to build on that in the latest car by combining their versatility with even greater efficiency that is reflected in fuel economy improvements of up to 20 percent. It's also 70 kgs lighter than the previous model thanks to use of lightweight aluminium components in roughly 20 percent of its body.

Not much can be distinguished from the standard Avant sedan but for the extended side sills, wider flared wings and vertical slats within the single frame grille. Stainless steel guards protect the underbody up front and rear of the car and the exhaust tips ends in two large, flattened tailpipes. The wheel arches, bumpers and sills are painted in contrasting colours but can be body-coloured if the optional aluminium exterior package is specified. The colour Java Brown is available exclusively for the new A6 all-road Quattro.

The long 2,910 mm wheelbase ensures plenty of interior space in the Audi A6 all road Quattro. Stand out features include soft keys, finished in aluminium that have been added to the MMI operating system - a standard feature with the Driver Information System. A comprehensive package of restraint systems helps mitigate the consequences of an accident.

Latches within the boot make it easy to fold the rear seats increasing the luggage capacity to 1,680 litres and 565 litres with the rear seats up. These include a rails system into which a load-securing kit for dividing the luggage compartment can be inserted, tensioning straps on the left wall and a double loading floor.

A head-up display can project important information onto the windscreen, ambient lighting that can bathe the interior with subtle LED lighting system and the widely adjustable comfort seats offer ventilation and massage function. Additional highlights include a four-zone automatic air conditioning, panoramic glass roof, and the advanced key that enables access, start-up and locking without the need to remove the key from the driver’s pocket.

And the infotainment option is the icing on the cake. A hard drive-based navigation system with touchpad operation and whole-word voice control, power retractable eight-inch monitor is coupled to a Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System with 15 speakers. When it comes to internet access, the Mobile Phone Preparation – High option connects it to the Internet via UMTS, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Added to this are tailored services for the driver, such as the all new Audi traffic information online function, which uses mobile phone signals to pinpoint traffic congestion or accident blackspots in real time.

Radar-based adaptive cruise control with stop & go function always keeps the new A6 all road Quattro at a safe distance from the car ahead. At speed below 30 kmph, the system initiates maximum braking in the event of an impending collision. ACC stop & go works closely with the Audi pre sense safety system, which is available in a number of configurations. The driver information system with rest recommendation function detects when the driver is getting tired and recommends taking a breather.

The new A6 all road Quattro will initially be available in the UK with a choice of three brutal V6 engines – one TFSI petrol engine and two TDI units. All are 3.0 litre engines with turbocharging and direct injection. They make use of important technologies from the Audi modular efficiency platform – the start-stop system and innovative thermal management. The 3.0 TFSI petrol unit which is boosted by a mechanically driven supercharger, produces 310PS and 440Nm of torque. It powers the car from zero to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds all the way to an electronically limited speed of 249 kmph and has a combine fuel efficiency of 13.4 kmpl.

As for the TDI mills that produce 204PS and 245PS of power, they achieve a fuel efficiency figure of 19.6 kmpl for the entry level version. The prices for the new Audi A6 all road Quattro start at £43,14 OTR UK (~Rs. 34.11 lakh). For now, the model will be available in the UK only.
