The base-spec XM variant is exempt from the price hike. The other two variants of the sub-4m Nexon EV are now costlier by Rs 26,000, and the EV is now priced from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.25 lakh. That said, it is still the most affordable long-range EV. This is in comparison with the two compact SUVs, the MG ZS EV (Rs 20.88 lakh - Rs 23.58 lakh) and the Hyundai Kona Electric (Rs 23.75 lakh - Rs 23.94 lakh), which are also both significantly bigger in size than the Nexon EV.

The eSUV offers an ARAI certified 312 km range on a full charge. This comes from a 30.25 kWh battery pack which runs a 129PS electric motor. Two drive modes, Drive and Sport, are available on-board. A DC fast charger requires just 60 minutes for a 0 to 80 percent charge, whereas a 3.3kW AC home fast charger requires 8 hours for a full charge.

On the brighter side of things, Tata is offering reduced subscription rates on the Nexon EV right up to November 30. Even the Delhi government has passed an order which exempts EVs from road tax. While it sits at a comfortably-priced spot in the EV market, it is set to face some competition in the form of the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 Electric which is set to arrive by 2021.
