On hand to grace the occasion of Job One for the Fiat Linea, director of FIAL and president Tata Motors' passenger car division, Rajiv Dubey was asked as to the timing of the launch of the new Fiat Linea given the slowdown in the market. And this was his reply:

"It is a challenging environment for anyone in the consumer durables industry today, and certainly for high ticket items like cars. But there is unison on one view across the auto industry as to the best way to counter a slow-down is by means of an appealing new product. And we do believe that the product that Fiat is launching in India would be one of the most appealing sedans in its segment and will draw consumers. While it is difficult in today's environment where it is at a squeeze and interest rates are high, appealing products still aren't able to draw consumers amongst the liquidity that is available. So I would say that companies like ours and Fiat, who are launching new products in the market are in amongst the best position to handle and counter the slow-down by virtue of the freshness of the product portfolio that we bring to the buyer."
