India is getting another electric bike. But this time it has a Tesla touch to it... sort of

  • The upcoming e-motorcycle is called Prana.
  • Its electric motor has more torque than the Honda CB300R!
  • It will be available in three variants: Class, Grand and Elite.
  • Will have four riding modes, including a reverse mode.
  • Not even a day goes by when we hear news about a new EV maker setting up its shop in India. And the latest to join this bandwagon is Tamil Nadu-based Srivaru Motors, that is all set to launch its first all-electric motorcycle in India in a few months. What will make you sit up and take notice is that this company is headed by an ex-Tesla engineer, Mohanraj Ramasamy. Now, we don’t really have to tell you what Tesla is and how it has revolutionised the entire EV segment in the world, right?

Called the Prana, the upcoming electric motorcycle will be powered by a lithium ion battery of yet undisclosed capacity. The company claims that the electric motor has an output of 35Nm and a top speed of 100kmph. Srivaru Motors also says that the Prana will do 0-60kmph under four seconds. The new electric motorcycle will be offered in three variants - Class, Grand and Elite. The entry-level ‘Class’ model will have the least range, whereas, the ‘Grand’ and the ‘Elite’ variant will offer a range of 126km and 250km, respectively.

The upcoming electric motorcycle will have four riding modes and a reverse mode, just like we have seen in the Ather 340/450. However, what has left us intrigued is that the company says that the Prana will have some “self-healing” components. There’s no information about this yet, but it should be something on the lines of the Kawasaki Ninja H2R’s self-healing paint.

Currently, the company is aiming to produce upto 30,000 units annually in Coimbatore. However, the EV maker is planning to ramp up production to 2 lakh units within the first 18 months of launch. Before expanding its footprints across the country, the company is planning to open 25 outlets in the Southern part of the nation and Maharashtra.

As far as price is concerned, there’s no word about that yet, but we expect the company to launch the bike at an aggressive price tag. Because, currently, the bike will be 70 per cent localised, but the company is also expecting to increase the localisation level soon.
