The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is a simpler and more affordable alternative to the Himalayan 450. While it misses out on some of the more premium features of its bigger sibling, the Himalayan 440 focuses on the basics that make an adventure motorcycle good. Here are its top five highlights:

Clean And Rugged Design

The Himalayan 440 gets a clean and familiar adventure motorcycle design. It has a tall stance, a large front wheel, a simple-looking body and a rugged overall appearance. The design doesn’t try too hard to look futuristic, and that gives the Himalayan 440 a likeable and purposeful character. It should also appeal to riders who prefer the more traditional ADV styling of the older Himalayan 411.

Strong Engine, Brilliant Refinement

The Himalayan 440 is powered by the same 443cc LS440 engine as the Scram 440. It produces 25.4 PS and 34 Nm, with the torque peaking at 4,000rpm, and comes paired with a six-speed gearbox. This should make the Himalayan 440 an easy bike to ride in city and even out on the highway with minimum downshifts required for quick overtakes. More than the outright numbers, the engine’s refinement is one of its biggest highlights. It feels smooth and relaxed while still offering enough torque for highway riding, touring and tackling rough roads.

No-Nonsense Features List

Royal Enfield has kept the Himalayan 440’s equipment list simple and functional. It gets a semi-digital instrument console that provides all the important information without being overly complicated. There is also a Tripper navigation pod for turn-by-turn navigation. The overall approach is quite different from the Himalayan 450, which gets a much more sophisticated TFT display and a longer list of electronic features. 

Go-Anywhere Capability

The Himalayan 440 retains the hardware expected from a proper adventure motorcycle. It gets long-travel suspension with 200 mm of travel at the front and 180 mm at the rear, along with 220 mm of ground clearance. Combined with its 21-inch front wheel and rugged chassis, the motorcycle should be capable of handling everything from broken city roads and highways to trails and rough terrain. There are also dual-purpose tyres, and switchable dual channel ABS. This gives the Himalayan 440 the go-anywhere character that the Himalayan name is known for.

Much More Affordable Than The Himalayan 450

RE Himalayan 440 Top Highlights

The biggest advantage of the Himalayan 440 is its price positioning. It is around Rs 70,000 more affordable than the Himalayan 450, which makes it considerably easier to access. The lower price also makes sense for riders who don’t necessarily need the larger motorcycle’s extra performance, sophisticated electronics and premium equipment. Instead, the Himalayan 440 offers the core adventure motorcycle experience at a much more accessible price.
