The ingredients required to make an exotic sports car are quite similar to those for making fighter jets. First, sketch out a design which cuts through the atmosphere, make it out of materials which can float on air and, finally, add to it an engine which can make it take off. And it’s by following these simple steps that the legendary Italian design and engineering company Italdesign Giugiaro has revealed its upcoming exotic – the “Special Car”. It will make its international debut at the Geneva International Motor Show which will start from March 7, 2017, in the Swiss city of Geneva.
Built for 'collectors and those who love uniqueness', it will be limited to just five units worldwide. What you see outside of the car is all carbon fibre, which has been wrapped around a structure which is a blend of aluminium and – you guessed it – carbon fibre. This recipe is quite similar to that of the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Huracán.
Since all the three brands fall under the same Volkswagen umbrella, the Special Car also shares its 5.2-litre V10 engine with the fellow supercars. Performance figures of the Special Car have not been made public, but they will be close to the 610PS/560Nm mark of the Audi R8 V10 Plus. The “Special Car” could do 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds and reach 330kmph, which is exactly the same as the Audi.
This exotic sports car is being manufactured under the recently launched ‘Italdesign Automobili Speciali’ brand, which has been launched to produce ultra-low series production cars, aimed at select collectors. The logo of the brand is a tribute to the City of Turin, where the Italdesign brand was born. The car was conceived, designed and built in Italy in the Italdesign factory in Moncalieri (Turin). Check out this list to know about all the performance cars coming to the 87th Geneva International Motor Show.
