It was originally slated for a launch in August

  • MG Motor India President Rajeev Chaba made the revelation in an instagram livestream.
  • It will be longer and feature revised cosmetic bits.
  • It is likely to retain most of the features from the standard Hector.
  • It will retain the BS6-compliant 2.0-litre diesel and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine options from the Hector.
  • It will go up against rivals like the Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Gravitas in India.

MG Motor India had introduced the Hector Plus 6-seater at Auto Expo 2020 with an initial plan to launch the 6- and 7-seater versions of the Hector in August and October respectively. However MG Motor India President, Rajeev Chaba, revealed in an Instagram livestream that the Hector Plus will be launched in June 2020. Rajeev Chaba also revealed that MG had earlier planned on launching the Hector Plus in April. However, the lockdown imposed in the country was the reason for the delay.

The Hector Plus sports changes like a 40mm longer body at 4695mm, a new grille, sleeker headlamps, revamped taillamps and tweaked bumpers. The biggest change is at the second and third row. The 6-seater version features captain seats for the second row and a rear bench for the third row. Meanwhile, the 7-seater version, which will be revealed at a later date, will get the same bench seat as the standard Hector in the second row.

It is likely to retain its equipment list from the standard Hector. Some notable ones consist of a 10.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, i-SMART 2.5 connected car tech, an Infinity sound system, climate control and a panoramic sunroof.

Under the hood, the Hector Plus will remain mechanically identical, with the same BS6-compliant 2.0-litre diesel (170PS/350Nm) and 1.5-litre turbo petrol (143PS/250Nm) motor from the standard Hector. Both engines are likely to be paired with the same 6-speed manual and 6-speed DCT gearboxes.

Expect the MG Hector Plus 6 and 7-seater versions to be priced at a premium over the standard model, which starts from Rs 12.73 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, due to the increase in size. Once launched, the Hector Plus will take on the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Gravitas in India.
