On several occasions has Maruti Suzuki tried to go the premium way, but despite having good products in their portfolio, they haven't tasted much success in that regard. This time round though, they have taken a different approach with their new Nexa dealerships.
Maruti Suzuki claims that these dealerships will offer a unique experience to its customers and will have only their premium offerings on sale. The Manesar-based car maker said at the time of the launch, 30 of these Nexa dealerships across the country will be ready. Needless to say, Maruti Suzuki will start with Tier 1 cities and then gradually expand its Nexa dealerships to other major cities and increase its reach to 100 showrooms.
These Nexa dealerships will only sell models that are priced above Rs 8 lakh to stay true to its premium tag. As of now, Maruti Suzuki will only sell the S-Cross that is scheduled to be launched in the first week of August. Later in the year, they might also start selling the YRA hatchback from the Nexa dealerships.
Maruti Suzuki sold its 15millionth car in India recently and needless to say a chunk of those sales come from its more affordable hatchbacks like Alto800, WagonR et al. But with the buying power of the customer increasing gradually, Maruti Suzuki is fully aware of the potential that premium hatchbacks and crossovers hold. Will their new Nexa approach bring them the kind of success they looking for? Only time will tell.
