Amid the back-and-forth in parliament over mandating six airbags as standard in passenger cars since 2023, one thing remained clear for both automakers and buyers – the essentiality of safety. The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is the third and latest from its family to be updated with six airbags as standard across its four variants: Standard, LXi, VXi, and VXi Plus. That said, it also comes with a slight price hike, now ranging from Rs 4.09 lakh to Rs 6.05 lakh (ex-showroom). The Alto K10 continues to stand as the entry-level flag bearer of the Maruti family, and this safety update only hints at its elder siblings, who are due for the same.
Well, the update is limited to the safety additions only. It now gets curtain and side airbags in addition to the dual front airbags it previously had. In its last update, the Alto K10 also saw an improvement in safety with the standardisation of electronic stability control (ESC) and ABS across all variants. Additionally, the popular hatchback continues to offer essential safety features such as rear parking sensors, three-point seatbelts, and an engine immobilizer.
The rest of the Maruti Alto K10’s feature set remains unchanged, including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital driver’s display, a 4-speaker audio system, manual AC, keyless entry, power windows, and steering-mounted controls.
There’s also a small update in the powertrain of the new Alto K10. It retains the same 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is also available with an optional CNG kit. The NA petrol engine now produces 68.5 PS (compared to 67 PS earlier) and 91 Nm of torque (up from 89 Nm). The power output with the CNG kit remains unchanged at 57 PS and 82 Nm.
The detailed specifications are as follows:

The Maruti Alto K10 competes against the Renault Kwid and is an alternative to the Maruti S-Presso.
Having the Alto K10’s safety updated it may be possible that Maruti Suzuki is silently updating their entire lineup with six airbags as standard. Barring the Ciaz, which may bid adieu to the family soon, models like the Wagon R, S-Presso, Ignis, XL6 and Ertiga are yet to receive 6 airbags across all variants.
The Ertiga and XL6 offer up to four airbags in higher trims, but it still fall short of the six-airbag standard. With the Alto K10, Celerio and Brezza following the new-gen Dzire, Swift, Baleno, Fronx, and Grand Vitara on this safety bit, it’s only a matter of time before the remaining Marutis follow suit.
We’ve recently got privy to Maruti’s farsighted plans regarding its EVs as well as its entry-level portfolio. And now, with the safety spree, Maruti’s strategies seem perfectly in place to strengthen its major but slightly loosened foothold in the Indian mass market.
