British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover rolled out its new smartphone integration platform InControl Apps, which has been developed in conjunction with Bosch, in Mumbai on Thursday. Android and iOS applications like Zomato, Hungama, NDTV will now be offered as a part of this new India-customised technology in a few of the JLR models, with the rest of the cars to follow suit in the near future.

At the launch event, the company said that the platform transfers the interface of popular smartphone apps from your mobile phone, enhancing the user experience with the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. President of Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd Rohit Suri said, “The InControl™ Apps will enhance the overall luxury experience of our vehicles and provide technology savvy customers a more convenient option to access their favourite apps.”

A total of four India-specific applications – Zomato, Hungama, NDTV and MapMyIndia will be available to the user upon installing the Land Rover InControl™ application on the phone and connecting it to the car via a USB cable. While three of these apps are free, MapMyIndia is an exception with an annual price tag of around 50 pounds. In addition, no less than five global applications including audiobooks are also available on this platform while you can also access contacts, calendars and your device music on the touchscreen.

Surprisingly though, the new smartphone integration system is available on only three cars in the company’s portfolio – 2016 Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Discovery Sport, as the Evoque has been left out of this lineup. However, the company promised at the launch to expand its platform to other cars in the near future with a few other India-specific apps also set to be roped in.

Jaguar in India sells cars like the F-Type (starting at Rs 1.26 crore), XF (starting at Rs 47.70 lakhs) and the XJ (starting at Rs. 97.20 lakhs). Land Rover, on the other hand, offers the Discovery Sport (starting from Rs 46.10 lakhs), Evoque (starting from Rs. 47.10 lakhs), Discovery (starting from Rs 1.11 crore), Range Rover Sport (starting from Rs. 1.16 crore) and Range Rover (starting from Rs. 2.07 crore), all prices Ex-showroom, Mumbai. Jaguar will be soon launching its smallest offering the XE sedan in the Indian market early next year, expected to be launched at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.
