The car is called 'Inspiration' and it has been built by a team of British engineers for a single purpose-to set the world land speed record for a steam powered car. It's a car with a difference and the Brit team that is backing this venture has their sites on the gold medal.

The race is set to take place at Edwards Air Force, located out in the Mojave Desert, California. Team Inspiration is looking at breaking the 145mph US national record that was set way back in 1985 and has remained unchallenged since then. The FIA record for a similar event stands at 127mph, which has stood undefeated for over 103 years. Team Inspiration expects their car to touch 170mph, and judging by the latest available technology and methods of reducing drag, this just might be possible.

In fact, the team has gone all out on the aerodynamic performance of Inspiration. The team has recruited the car care experts Autoglym in order for them to come in and prepare the car so that surface drag is reduced to a bare minimum. The clear coat will also act as a visual enhancer of the car, for not only will it help reduce air resistance, it will also look stunning thanks to the coating.

Incidentally, Team Inspiration is not the first team to ask for Autoglym's support. Other record breaking cars such as Thrust 2 and Thrust SSC also utilized similar coatings.

Being powered by a steam engine, yet designed to look like a jet fighter done up in the British Racing Green, Inspiration does seem to have what it takes to set the world land speed record for a steam powered car.
