British uber luxury car maker Bentley Motors celebrated Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday and Diamond Jubilee year of accession to the British throne 60 years ago with the unveiling of a Diamond Jubilee Edition of its flagship vehicle, the Mulsanne. The Bentley Mulsanne Diamond Jubilee Edition was unveiled during the 2012 Beijing Motor Show in China to also mark the opening of one of the World’s largest Bentley dealerships. China is currently the biggest market for Bentley vehicles in the world.
The Mulsanne Diamond Jubilee Edition has been designed and hand crafted by Bentley’s Mulliner division, who are responsible for creating the State Limousine presented to the Queen in 2002. A limited 60 examples of the Mulsanne Diamond Jubilee Edition have been made, each vehicle representing a year of Her Majesty’s reign.
The 60 limited Edition Mulsanne Diamond Jubilee vehicles will feature unique spectrum of hide and colour schemes that set the cars apart from other Bentleys including using various shades of red, white and blue (colours of the Union Jack) inside the cars to mark the British Connection. Other handcrafted bespoke features include headrests and leather cushions with gold stitching and gold overlay on veneered picnic tables in the rear cabin depicting the Royal carriage used for prestigious occasions of State. The car also gets polished stainless steel treadplate plaques with ‘Bentley Mulliner, England’ script and ‘Diamond Jubilee Edition’ embossed on them.
“The respect and genuine interest shown towards so many aspects of British life, and most especially The Royal Family, has made China a unique experience for our marque as well as many other UK businesses. This series of special cars, hand-built by our Mulliner Division, is our way of reciprocating the appreciation for British institutions, creativity and services we have been shown in China,” said Richard Charlesworth, Director of Royal and VIP Relations, Bentley Motors.
The Mulsanne Diamond Jubilee Edition comes with Bentley’s 6,752cc twin turbocharged V8 engine that develops 512PS of power and a staggering 1020Nm of torque. That power can be used to catapult the massive luxury limousine from 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 296 km/h.
Bentley Motors has sold 1,664 cars in China during the first quarter of 2012, which is an 84.66 percent growth in sales over the same period in 2011. The Chinese automobile market is growing at a phenomenal pace and Bentley intends to take full advantage of the situation by further expanding its dealership presence in the next 12 months.
