Another busy week, with top-class racing in the international arena and back home

Like was the case the week before, there was more than enough racing over the  last seven days to quench that motorsport thirst. First, we had Formula One and Formula 2’s second round of the season at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with the 2021 FMSCI Indian Rally Championship coming to a close with the  South India Rally.  Here's everything that transpired:

Formula One

The 2022 Formula One Saudi Arabian Grand Prix continued the strong start to the season with quite a thrilling race under the lights. After an intense fight for the lead, it was Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen taking the win ahead of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz rounded off the top three finishers. This result has Leclerc and Ferrari continuing to hold the lead in the drivers and constructors standings.

Formula 2

Jehan Daruvala had quite a busy second round of the 2022 F2 season at Jeddah. After a difficult qualifying in 15th place, the Prema driver managed to recover to seventh in the sprint race. But the more impressive feat for the Indian driver was in the feature race, with a well timed strategy that helped him finish third after starting 14th. Daruvala currently lies sixth in the drivers' standings.

Sure it's 2022, but the 2021 FMSCI Indian Rally Championship season came to its conclusion at the South India Rally. While it was the Arka Motorsports pair of Karna Kadur and co-driver Nikhil Pai who took the rally win, it was the Chettinad Sporting squad of Aditya Thakur and co-driver Virender Kashyap who took their maiden title. That being said, the result is provisional over a pending appeal before the Indian Motor Sports Appeal Court.

Indian Motorsport

The 2022 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) kicked off at Buriam, with a positive showing from the IDEMITSU Honda Racing India Team in the AP250 class. The Indian rider duo of Rajiv Sethu & Senthil Kumar finished 11th and 13th, which amounted to a points haul of 11 points. That’s the highest points haul in a single round by the team at the ARRC.

The coming week will serve us the third round of MotoGP at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit in Argentina. It is scheduled to take place from April 1-3.
