Like the week before there was racing action galore from various motorsport disciplines

The last seven days had no dearth of motorsport action. It included F1 and F2 tackling the streets of Monaco, MotoGP at Mugello, as well as the 106th edition of the Indianapolis 500. Here’s everything that went down:

Formula One

Wet weather threw a serious curveball at the 2022 Formula One Monaco Grand Prix with varying tyre strategies spicing things up. After a strategic implosion from Ferrari, it was Sergio Perez who took the spoils, scoring his first win of the season for Red Bull Racing. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished second with Perez’s teammate Max Verstappen rounding off the top three finishers. In the driver standings Verstappen has stretched his lead to nine points over Charles Leclerc, with Red Bull Racing now leading Ferrari by 36 points in the constructor standings.

Formula 2

The results for Jehan Daruvala in the fifth round of the 2022 Formula 2 season held in Monaco were a mixed bag. In the sprint race, the Indian had a strong second place finish, while in the feature race, the Prema Racing driver was affected by an unfortunate safety car which meant a damage limiting race to eighth place. Nevertheless, he still lies third in the driver standings.

The eighth round of the 2022 MotoGP season certainly served up some surprises, with changeable conditions in qualifying leading to Fabio Di Giannantonio taking his maiden pole for Gresini Racing Ducati. Sure, the Italian dropped back in the race, but it was the factory Ducati of Francesco Bagnaia who scythed through the field from fifth on the grid to take a memorable win on home turf. Fabio Quartararo took second for Yamaha with Aprilia’s Aleix Esparagro landing yet another third place finish. Quartararo’s lead from Espargaro in the rider standings has increased to eight points.

Indy 500

It's another year and the 106th edition of the Indy 500 with a star-studded line-up fighting for top honours at the ‘Brickyard’. This time, it was a new name on the top step of the podium in the form of ex-Formula One driver, Marcus Ericsson. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver managed to stave off a late two-lap charge from McLaren Arrow’s Patricio O Ward to hold on to the win. Ericsson’s teammate Tony Kanaan rounded off the podium.

Next week will see MotoGP head to Barcelona, Spain for the Catalan Grand Prix, with WRC returning to racing action with Rally Italy.
