The Toyota Fortuner Legender will now be a whole lot more capable off the beaten path, thanks to the introduction of an all-wheel-drive variant priced at Rs 42.33 lakh (ex-showroom). Yes, the Legender 4X4 AT is now super expensive, but Toyota has given it a few extra features to compensate for the massive premium over the 4X2 variant.

As you can see, the Fortuner Legender 4X4 AT commands a premium of Rs 3.72 lakh over the 4X2 AT. No changes have been made to the design. If you want a closer look at the Fortuner Legender’s styling, check out our in-depth first-drive review.

The Fortuner Legender 4X4 AT will utilise the same 204PS 2.8-litre diesel engine as the 4x2 AT variant, paired with a 6-speed automatic. The diesel-manual and petrol powertrains are limited to the regular Fortuner. The 4WD Legender also gets additional off-road-centric aids from the standard 4WD model, including a low-range gearbox, mechanical and electronic locking differentials, and downhill assist control.

The Fortuner Legender 4X4 AT also gets an additional feature over the 4X2, and that’s the 11-speaker JBL sound system. Other creature comforts include a touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech (telematics), Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, a powered tailgate, and automatic climate control.
Passenger safety is taken care of by seven airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, a rearview camera, and electronic stability control with traction control.

The new flagship variant of the Fortuner is the most expensive SUV in its segment. The asking price makes the Legender 4x4 AT an alternative to the MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas G4, and German entry-level crossovers like the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
