Toyota has added new variants to the Fortuner and Fortuner Legender with a mild-hybrid diesel powertrain, starting from Rs 44.72 lakh (ex-showroom). Along with introducing the updated engine, the Japanese carmaker has also made some feature revisions. Here’s all you need to know about the updated Fortuner…
The mild-hybrid diesel will be available with both, the regular Fortuner and the Fortuner Legender. Here are its prices:

Diesel engines are known for their fuel efficiency, but the Fortuner, due to its large engine and impressive power and torque figures was never really a fuel-efficient SUV. With the new mild-hybrid version, Toyota also claims that the updated powertrain will offer improved fuel efficiency.
The new 48-Volt system combined with the popular and well-known 2.8-litre diesel unit is meant to deliver not just more fuel-efficiency, but also deliver better lower-end acceleration, emit lower emissions while being a quieter operator.
The new Multi-Terrain Select lets you customize your traction and drive modes, especially for off-road conditions. The Neo Drive Boost Assist feature provides enhanced acceleration when you need a bit of extra torque.
While Toyota is offering the new mild-hybrid version, the existing non-hybrid version and the petrol option will also continue to be on sale. While the diesel engine generates 204 PS and 500 Nm, the 2.7-litre NA petrol unit makes 166 PS and 245 Nm. Both engine options come with manual and automatic options.
The updated version of the Fortuner now also comes with idle start-stop, a feature that automatically switches off the engine at idle.
Moreover, it also gets a 360-degree camera which will help parking the mighty SUV an easier task. Furthermore, both also get a wireless phone charger for a seamless charging experience.
However, Toyota has removed the ventilated front seats. While the reason for this has not been revealed, we believe that it is to accommodate the small battery pack underneath the seat.
Do note that the new features are available only with the Neo Drive variants.
While Fortuner fans were waiting for a facelift, this upgrade is close to a mild-facelift. Yes, there is no upgrade in terms of styling and the interior, but the addition of a mild-hybrid system in the powertrain is a crucial update. Plus, features like a 360-degree camera will surely add to the appeal. Still no sunroof though…maybe we will get it with the facelift? Time will tell.
For now, the mild-hybrid diesel is a good option to consider for those who want a quieter experience and slightly better fuel efficiency. Will you pick the Fortuner over rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq, VW Tiguan R-Line, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian. Let us know in the comments section.
