Hero seems to be working on the Xpulse 160 ADV, which will likely use the same 160cc two-valve air-cooled engine like the Hero Xtreme 160R 2V. The ADV bike was spotted recently and we think it will be a replacement for the Xpulse 200 4V. Here’s why:
Currently, the Xpulse 200 4V is priced from Rs 1,51,500, while the Xpulse 210 from Rs 1,75,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi). With a price difference of about Rs 25,000, both bikes are distinctly different from each other in terms of performance and equipment. That said, even if you are a newbie or getting into off-roading, spending the extra money and buying the Xpulse 210 makes more sense. This is because the 210 has the capacity to better accommodate your ever-improving skills. In comparison, the 200 4V might just start feeling a bit redundant after your skills reach a certain threshold, making you wish you had spent the extra money.
Since the new Xpulse 160 is expected to have the same engine as the Xtreme 160R, we think it could be priced between Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). If so, that will be a clear distinction to the Xpulse 210, in terms of a Rs 50,000 price difference as well as performance. If the Xpulse 200 4V co-exists with these two bikes, its odd pricing might even cannibalise the sales of the other two Xpulses. Also worth noting is the fact that Hero has had very low sales numbers for the Xpulse 200 in the past two months – 1,304 in March, and 1,455 in April.
Also, Xpulse 200 is the only bike with its 200cc air-cooled 4-valve engine, considering Hero discontinued the Xpulse 200T and the Xtreme 200S late last year. Hero’s 210cc platform is shared between the Karizma XMR 210 and the Xpulse 210, whereas the 160cc platform has the Xtreme 160R and will have the Xpulse 160. Discontinuing the Xpulse 200 will allow Hero to streamline as well as economise its product portfolio. All of this is expected to happen early next year; most-likely when the Hero World event is conducted.
