And it could give the Honda Rebel 500 a run for its money

Leaked type-approval documents reveal that Chinese bikemaker, QJ Motors is all set to unveil its new cruiser – the SRV500 Custom. Benelli’s sister company already has the SRV300 on sale in a few foreign markets, and the new 500cc motorcycle will lock horns with the Honda Rebel 500.

The QJ Motor SRV500 Custom is based on the SRV500 Street Cruiser, which is QJ’s spin to the Benelli 502 C. So, instead of the Diavel-inspired styling, the SRV500 Custom takes the American route. The bike flaunts a simple, circular headlight, forward-set footpegs, teardrop-shaped tanks, and cruiser-like seat.

The engine is the same 500cc parallel-twin motor from the Benelli’s 502 range, which in this avatar, makes 48.67PS. While the torque figure is not disclosed yet, the 502 C makes 46Nm, so we reckon the Custom to have the same torque figure.

The underpinnings of the QJ Motors SRV500 include telescopic fork and monoshock setup to take care of suspension duties, and single discs at both ends for braking. Interestingly, the SRV500 Custom would be available in two variants: one with 16-inch alloys at both ends, and the other with a 18/17-inch setup. With a kerb weight of 199kg, the QJ bike is almost 17kg lighter than the Benelli 502 C.

Needless to say, we won’t see this motorcycle in India. However, we can expect Benelli to introduce its version of the SRV500 Custom. Given that this brand has been proactively introducing new motorcycles in India, we can expect the 500cc cruiser to arrive on our shores if and when Benelli makes one.
