Nissan’s first new product for India, as part of its revival plans, the Gravite MPV, is now all set to be launched later this month. And despite the delays so far, it will play an important role in the carmaker’s portfolio while targeting to fill a major vacuum in the entry-level MPV market. But before you get excited, here is all you should know about it:
Sharing its underpinnings with the Renault Triber, the Gravite will be based on the CMF-A+ platform and will carry the same silhouette as its French counterpart. That said, from the design sketches shown so far, it will carry a heavily reworked design to differentiate itself. The front-end styling will consist of a large ‘V-shaped’ grille with aggressive bumpers and silver accents.

We do not know what the side profile will look like, but expect it to be near-identical to the Triber, possibly with a new design for the alloy wheels. The rear-end styling, however, also follows a bolder approach with reworked taillamp detailing and a muscular bumper with sharper cuts and creases.

Inside, the Gravite will get a 7-seater layout for added practicality, and is likely to feature a similar layout as the Triber. Nissan could, however, give it a few changes in terms of the colour theme, upholstery and some bits and pieces.

In terms of equipment, expect the Gravite to offer features such as a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, cruise control, ambient lighting, auto headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.

Its safety features could include 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, reverse camera and rear parking sensors.
Under the hood, the Gravite is expected to be powered by a 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options, just like its sibling, the Magnite.
Here are the specifications of this powertrain:
|
Engine |
1-litre naturally aspirated petrol |
|
Transmission |
5-speed manual/5-speed AMT |
|
Power (PS) |
72 PS |
|
Torque (Nm) |
96 Nm |
However, the 1-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Magnite is unlikely to be seen here, given the Gravite’s focus on affordability.
Nissan has now officially confirmed that it will finally launch the Gravite on February 17. It is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh to 9 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Gravite will have no direct rivals, except the Triber, but it could also be considered as a more affordable alternative to the Maruti Ertiga, the Toyota Rumion and the older Kia Carens, which is still on sale in one variant.
With the launch date being postponed earlier, Nissan has surely faced the ire of eager buyers, but now that the Gravite is finally coming in, it will be interesting to see it become one of the very few truly affordable options for family buyers, and the Gravite could pull in good volumes. That said, the Gravite will remain a stopgap product until the carmaker’s future lineup arrives later this year.
