Nissan India has finally introduced the new Gravite MPV, with prices starting at Rs 5.65 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). Based on the Renault Triber, it takes on the entry-level MPV segment. Nissan has made extensive changes to the Gravite to give it a distinct identity. Let’s take a detailed look at the new Gravite in these detailed images from the launch.
The new Gravite shares its underpinnings with the Renault Triber. But Nissan has made extensive changes to give the model a different personality. There’s a massive new grille up front finished in piano black, whilehe bonnet gets a sculpted and tough look for better road presence.

Moving down, bumpers have been redesigned and accommodate the new C-shaped elements from the Nissan’s global design language. The headlamp cluster remains the same, but with reworked detailing and comes with projector LED lighting, whereas the LED DRLs have a simple and slim layout.

The side profile gets minimal changes when compared to the Triber. If you just look at the vehicle from the side, you won’t really come to know if this is a Renault or Nissan offering. There are subtle differences, however.

The Gravite gets different wheel covers for the steel wheels, while the launch edition adds body decals to the car. The roof rails have been retained and remain functional too, just like the Triber.

Changes to the rear are just enough to give the Gravite a fresh feel. The taillight cluster is the same but the detailing has been reworked with new internals. There’s also a piano black garnish connecting the lights, with the Nissan logo resting in the centre. The rear bumper is more aggressive as well, with black textured cladding and also gets the C-shaped elements finished in brushed silver, although the launch edition adds orange accents on it.

The cabin of the Nissan Gravite bears strong resemblance to the one found in the pre-facelift Renault Triber. Compared to the current Triber however, the big difference is the positioning of the touchscreen infotainment system. On the Triber, it’s a floating unit placed above the AC vents.

On the Gravite, the 8-inch touchscreen has been integrated into the dashboard. Nissan has also added a digital driver’s display that comes with two visual layouts. The wireless charging pad is placed below the touchscreen, while the MPV comes with manual AC and gets good old-fashioned dials for the functions.

For the driver, the Gravite offers a three-spoke steering wheel with buttons for multiple functions, including media, volume, and cruise control. The centre console holds two cupholders, while there’s a cooled storage space placed between the front seats.

The front seats of the Gravite get a slim profile, but offer a good amount of support for occupants with a wide base, chunky fixed headrests and mild bolstering in-keeping with its family and space-oriented theme.

The second row comes with ample room, thanks to the tall design. To make things more versatile, Nissan has also given it sliding and reclining functions, and there are dedicated AC vents too. You also get a third row and while legroom is compromised, there is decent headroom available. The third-row seats can be completely removed to make way for a bigger boot. The Gravite offers up 84 litres of space with all three rows up, which can be increased to 625 litres with the third row removed.

The Gravite is loaded with equipment a semi-digital driver’s display, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, keyless entry, auto headlamps and cruise control.

On the safety front, the Gravite’s suite includes six airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, traction control system, hill start assist, brake assist and seatbelt reminders for all occupants.

The Gravite draws power from a single 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine option motor producing 72 PS and 96 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. Here are the detailed specifications:

Notably, Nissan has also announced that it will introduce a dual-cylinder equipped CNG option soon, although the launch date remains unconfirmed.
Bookings are now open for the Gravite, while deliveries are set to commence in a few weeks. Customers can book the car at the automaker’s authorized dealerships or online for an amount of Rs 11,000.
The Gravite has only one direct rival in the form of the Renault Triber, although it can also be considered as a more affordable alternative to MPVs like the Maruti Ertiga and XL6, Kia Carens and Carens Clavis and the Toyota Rumion.
The Gravite upholds all the strong aspects of the Triber, and Nissan has aimed to give the MPV, it’s own unique appeal. For those looking at a big family car but don’t want a Triber, the Gravite will be a good choice. The lower starting price, and revamped interior are also the Gravite’s strong suits which could turn out to be its trump card in the MPV space.
