Nissan has launched its new sub-4 metre 7-seater MPV in the Indian market, going by the name of Gravite. The Gravite is nothing but a badge-engineered product born out of the Nissan-Renault partnership. Nissan really needed a new car to expand its portfolio in India, and the Gravite, which is based on the Renault Triber, should really help improve its market share.
The Renault Triber had received a much-awaited facelift earlier this year, giving it a new, robust look along with some features that were always missing. Ever since its debut in 2019, Triber has been a promising product in Renault’s lineup, and the facelift has helped improve those figures.
Both cars are very similar and share most of their equipment, but which one is better than the other? And which one should you be buying? Let’s find that out in this comparison story.
The Nissan Gravite is the Japanese cousin of the Renault Triber, which has now been launched in India. Since the Gravite is based on the Triber, both of them exhibit similar design cues. Starting with the Gravite, it has a more funky and adventure-ready styling, especially with its C-shaped accents on the front and rear bumpers.

The front features a big V-shape grille with a honeycomb pattern and the ‘Gravite’ lettering on the hood. This is complemented by LED projector headlights with sleek LED DRLs that are connected by a chrome strip. At the side, the silhouette remains identical to its cousin, with roof-rails, a boxy MPV stance and 15-inch stylized steel wheels.

The funky design is retained at the rear as well, with a flat tailgate, LED taillights, and a rear bumper with a honeycomb pattern finish.

The Renault Triber, on the other hand, has a rather mature and sporty stance. The front fascia has an appealing styling with a comparatively slimmer gloss-black grille with vertical slats. It also gets LED headlights, sharp and sporty cuts on the front bumper for the positioning of LED DRLs and foglights, and a silver skid plate.

From the side, the design remains minimalist with functional roof rails and 15-inch stylized steel wheels, albeit with a different design.

Moving towards the rear, it gets a flat tailgate with the ‘Triber’ badge, sporty-looking LED taillights, and a silver skid plate on the bumper to further add to the looks.

Here is a detailed comparison of their size:

The Nissan Gravite and Renault Triber are both underpinned by the same platform, which means both cars have the same dimensions. The Gravite does have slightly more length and height on paper, but in real life, there isn’t any noticeable difference in their dimensions.
It’s a tie!
Starting with the Nissan Gravite’s cabin first, the interior gets a dual-tone dashboard theme of black and white, along with wooden finishing. The overall dashboard layout is similar to what we have also seen on the pre-facelift version of its sibling. At the centre is a large touchscreen infotainment screen, below which are the knobs for the control of air conditioning. The AC vents are sleek, and the central vents have been placed above the infotainment screen. It also gets a 3-spoke steering wheel similar to the Triber. The leatherette upholstery feels premium with its white colour with blue inserts, although the headrests cannot be adjusted.

Moving to the Renault Triber now, there is not much to differentiate. Both cars carry a very similar interior layout, although dashboard in the current Triber has been given a slight design update and kept in a dual-tone colour scheme of black and light brown, while the seats have been given a suave black & greige woven upholstery with fixed headrests. Taking the centre stage is a free-standing touchscreen infotainment screen. Unlike the Gravite, the central AC vents have been placed below this screen. Moving further down are the knobs for operating the air conditioning. The steering wheel over here is a 3-spoke unit as well.

Both cars offer three rows of seats, which makes them a 7-seater. The second row of seats can be adjusted by sliding forward and backwards, while you can completely remove the third row of seats to increase the boot space to 625 litres.
Both the Gravite and Triber offer a similar set of features, with a few differences. For starters, the Gravite gets a ‘Limited Launch Edition’ that includes JBL speakers, a dual dashcam, and an air purifier.

Features that are common in the Gravite and Triber include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s instrument cluster, keyless entry, push-button start, wireless charger, electrically adjustable ORVMs, automatic headlights, manual AC, 2nd and 3rd row AC vents, cooled glove box and centre console, 6-speaker sound system, cruise control (MT only) and rain-sensing wipers.

In terms of safety, both cars come equipped with 6 airbags as standard, front and rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, rain-sensing wipers, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control system, hill start assist and tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Nissan Gravite and Renault Triber both share their engine and transmission. Powering both the cars is a 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which can be had with either a manual or an AMT gearbox.
Here are the detailed engine specifications of both cars:

The Renault Triber is also offered with a dealer-fitted CNG kit, which is expected to make its way into the Nissan Gravite soon in the coming months.
Both cars have a very similar starting price, with a difference of just Rs. 11,000/-. Nissan has launched the Gravite in the Indian market, starting at Rs. 5.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Renault had also revised the prices of the Triber during the launch of the facelifted model, prices of which now start at Rs. 5.76 lakh (ex-showroom).

Model |
Price (ex-showroom) |
|
Nissan Gravite |
Rs 5.65 - 8.93 lakh |
|
Renault Triber |
Rs 5.76 - 8.59 lakh |
It is a neck-to-neck competition here as well. The Nissan Gravite does come at a lower price tag for the base variant, but if you’re looking at higher AMT variants, it is the Renault Triber that is more value-for-money. But do note that the prices of the Nissan Gravite are introductory and only valid for the first 5000 buyers.
Both the Nissan Gravite and Renault Triber are very similar cars and have the same list of features and space on offer. So the question persists, which one to buy? We can break it down into different parts. Firstly, the design, if you want something that looks fresh and funky, the Gravite should be your pick, while if you’re someone who prefers maturity, the Triber is the one for you. In terms of after-sales service, both companies need to work a lot to improve, although Triber has a slight benefit since it has been in the market since 2019.
Nissan is also offering huge benefits with the Gravite. These include 5 years of zero-cost service, the Nissan Loyalty Program, a 5.55% ROI from Nissan Finance and exclusive upgrade benefits from your old car. But all these benefits and the introductory price are limited to only the first 5000 buyers, so if you find this deal interesting, make sure to lock your spot!
