The Indian Supercross League kicks off with their first event at Pune’s Balewadi Stadium this Sunday. It brings high adrenaline, action-packed dirt bike racing to the country in an interesting league format.

Indian Motorsport gets another boost this year with CEAT Indian Supercross Racing League (CEAT ISRL) kicking off operations in the new year. The inaugural event will take place in Pune’s Balewadi stadium and while Ceat ISRL is expecting 10,000 motorsports in the stands on Sunday, the action will also be broadcast live on Sports18 and JioCinema so both on live television and OTT formats. Even tickets are available online for purchase.

The league format sees six teams participating in three events in the first season with races in Ahmedabad and Delhi as well. The races will feature four classes of racing - International 450cc, International 250cc and Indian 250cc classes with an additional childrens demo class of 85cc bikes. Each team will field two riders in each class. Audiences will enjoy 8 races at each event with two races per class (Moto 1 & Moto 2) and riders will accumulate points from both races to see who wins overall.

A highlight will be the All Star race at the end of the event when each team will select one rider from each of the senior classes to compete together in a “free for all” finale. This will see international riders and our local boys rub shoulders, with the 450cc bikes sharing the track with the 250cc bikes. This is expected to expose our local talent to the level of racing that the international riders are at, and over time this will help carry them forward in the sport.

Race day promises live viewers a complete day out with the gates opening at around 1pm and the ability to view the bikes and interact with riders in the pit area. There will also be stalls for food, bands playing music, and even Freestyle MX riders performing some crazy stunts to keep everyone occupied till the main event kicks off at 6pm.

With league format properties lifting up the profile of sports like football, table tennis and even kabaddi to lesser-known sports the way IPL has worked for cricket, the hope is that a league format will help riders enhance their racing prowess in the country, and develop a solid, stable platform to do so.
