The Honda CBR650R and CB650R E-Clutch variants have been teased by Honda India.. The E-Clutch is Honda’s newest technology, which will make riding a lot easier and more accessible to newer riders.
The brand had first teased the Honda CBR650R, with just its blacked-out silhouette. . This was later followed by a similar teaser of the CB650R. In this article we will be giving you a detailed breakdown of what the Honda E-Clutch tech brings to the table along with other details.
Better For Beginners?
The E-Clutch system electronically actuates the clutch, thereby not needing riders to manually operate it. It works right from the get go. That means you can start the bike, slot the first gear without manually engaging the clutch and get moving. You can upshift or downshift through the entire gearbox like this.

Honda has put in electronic actuators inside the clutch case that will do the clutching and declutching job for the rider. This is especially beneficial for the casual riders who just want to enjoy riding without having to fiddle around with the clutch lever. That said, for those who-like to be more hands-on, they can just switch off the system and ride as they would with any other bike.

The system looks quite promising and will be good for people who are just getting their first big bike. As larger capacity motorcycles produce more power and torque, getting the clutch release right might not be as easy in the initial period with the bike. That said, using the automatic clutch would also ease riding in stop-go traffic for riders of all calibre. .Overall, this feature is a nice addition which will make it easier to live with a big bike like the Honda CBR650R and the Honda CB650R.
An Unchanged Package?
Other than the addition of the E-Clutch technology, both bikes remain unchanged. They are still powered by the same 649cc, liquid-cooled, inline-4 engine, which outputs 95PS at 12,000rpm and 63Nm at 9,500rpm.

Both the bikes feature a Showa SSF inverted fork and a monoshock with 10-step preload adjustability. Both bikes roll on 17-inch alloys at both ends, with a braking setup that consists of a twin-310mm disc setup at the front and a single 240mm disc at the rear.
Currently, the Honda CB650R is priced at Rs 9,20,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It goes up against the Triumph Trident 660. The Honda CBR650R is priced at Rs 9,99,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike primarily rivals the Triumph Daytona 660 and the Kawasaki Ninja 650. We expect the E-Clutch variants of both bikes to command a premium of about Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh over these variants.
