The electric SUV gets multiple updates inside and outside, and in this report, we take a closer look at them in detailed images

Recently, MG Motor gave the ZS EV a midlife refresh in the United Kingdom. The electric SUV features updated styling, more features, and increased range. In these detailed images, let’s take a closer look at how the upcoming India-bound model differs from its pre-facelift version:

The most noticeable difference is at the front. Gone is the earlier faux grille, and in comes a closed-off panel, which does make sense considering there’s no engine.

It borrows some bits from the Astor (the facelifted petrol ZS overseas), including its headlamp and taillight design.

Compared to the pre-facelift model, the front and rear bumper designs are cleaner, and it has lesser body cladding than before, making the body shade a little more dominant (read conspicuous) on the electric SUV.

Even the alloy wheel design has been tweaked; it gets a more turbine-like design this time.

The carmaker has abided by the adage ‘don’t fix what isn’t broken’ for the facelifted ZS EV’s cabin. That said, it is now identical to the Astor, right down to the premium soft-touch dash top.

Features are more compared to the pre-facelift model. These include a revised centre console, a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display (also present in the Astor), a wireless phone charger, and automatic climate control.

The facelifted electric SUV in the UK also comes with driver assists like active emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and blind spot detection. All these goodies are available in the Astor as well.

Sure, the carmaker hasn’t divulged on the electric powertrain, but it’s likely to retain the same 143PS engine as the pre-facelift EV.

The most significant change, however, is in the battery, with the ZS EV now utilising a 51kWh battery pack instead of the earlier 44.5kWh unit. This translates to a 318km range according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) cycle (compared to the earlier 262km). It also supports charging speeds upto 76kW.

The other big addition is that of a new long-range option, which returns a WLTP-claimed range of 439km, thanks to a larger 72kWh battery pack. Charging speeds have also been upped to 100kW, and when paired with a 100kW fast charger, a 0-100 percent charge takes just 42 minutes.

Currently, the pre-facelift MG ZS EV retails in India at prices starting from Rs 21 lakh. The facelifted SUV will likely arrive here in 2022, and when that happens, it will rekindle its rivalry with the Hyundai Kona Electric.
