Aprilia has brought back its maxi-scooter game in India with the launch of the new SXR GT hp.e range. The lineup includes the SXR GT 125 and the more powerful SXR GT 175, with prices starting from Rs 1,09,999 and going up to Rs 1,29,999, respectively. Both prices are ex-showroom. The new scooters combine sporty styling, proper maxi-scooter proportions and comfortable ergonomics, while borrowing their engines from Aprilia’s SR range of scooters.
Design

The SXR GT 125 and SXR GT 175 share the same bulky and sporty design, giving them a much more substantial road presence than your average scooter. A tall windscreen, sharp bodywork and a split LED headlight setup with neatly integrated DRLs give both scooters a distinctly premium appearance.
The large 14-inch alloy wheels further add to the maxi-scooter stance while also promising better stability on the move. The overall design is modern, aggressive and unmistakably Aprilia. The SXR GT 125 is available in Matte Black, Glossy Azzurro and Glossy White. The SXR GT 175, meanwhile, can be had in Metallic Blue, Matte Black and Matte Green.
Engine And Performance

The SXR GT 125 is powered by a 125 cc engine producing 10.6 PS and 10.4 Nm. The larger SXR GT 175 uses a 175 cc engine that makes 13.3 PS and 14.14 Nm. Both engines are shared with Aprilia’s SR range, although they are expected to have a slightly different state of tune to suit the more relaxed and comfort-oriented character of the SXR GT scooters.
Features

The SXR GT 175 gets a 5-inch TFT console, similar to the one seen on the SR 175. It comes with smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, SMS and call alerts, as well as music controls. The SXR GT 125 gets a 5-inch LCD console. Unlike its bigger sibling, it does not get connected features. The SXR GT 175 gets single-channel ABS, while the SXR GT 125 gets a combined braking system (CBS).
Underpinnings

Both scooters use a conventional telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. They ride on 14-inch alloy wheels wrapped in road-focused tyres. Braking duties are handled by a 220 mm front disc and a 140mm rear drum on both scooters. The combination of large wheels, conventional suspension and relaxed ergonomics should make the SXR GT range well suited to everyday city riding as well as longer commutes.
Price And Rivals

The Aprilia SXR GT 125 is priced at Rs 1,09,999, while the SXR GT 175 costs Rs 1,29,999. Both prices are ex-showroom. The SXR GT 125 will take on scooters such as the Suzuki Burgman Street, while the more powerful SXR GT 175 will rival the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Honda ADV160. Bookings for both scooters are now open at Aprilia dealerships across India.
Zig Says
The SXR GT name isn’t new to India, but Aprilia has given the range a fresh lease of life with the new SXR GT 125 and SXR GT 175. The combination of proper maxi-scooter styling, familiar SR-based engines, larger wheels and improved features makes these scooters quite interesting. And at Rs 1.09 lakh for the 125 and Rs 1.29 lakh for the 175, Aprilia has managed to keep the pricing competitive. The SXR GT 175, in particular, could be an interesting alternative for buyers who want the sporty appeal of an Aerox but prefer a more relaxed maxi-scooter character.
