From concept to near-production guise, it hasn’t taken the Tata Curvv a long time to take it to the roads for testing and we suspect this mule to be the electric model

  • Tata Curvv test mule papped testing.

  • Exterior retains most of the design touches from the concept with similarities to 2023 Nexon and Harrier

  • Interior yet to be snapped, but may get a similar treatment seen on the 2023 Nexon and Safari facelifts.

  • Could pack dual displays, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats and ADAS.

  • Will be based on the Gen 2 platform, supporting both ICE and EV powertrains.

  • ICE version to get Tata’s new 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine.

  • Tata will roll out the Curvv EV first, followed by the ICE model.

The Tata Curvv, first spotted on public roads in July this year, has once again been spotted during testing in what seems to be closer to a production-ready form. This latest test model drops some camouflage, revealing several fresh design details for the upcoming contender to Hyundai's Creta.

A Glimpse of the Fresh Design

Tata Curvv EV concept

The spied test mule showcases the Tata Curvv's SUV coupe-like roofline, reminiscent of the designs seen in luxury SUV-coupes by Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Styling elements seen on the new Nexon, Harrier, and Safari – like a split-LED headlight arrangement with a sleek LED DRL spanning the bonnet’s width, have been inspired by its concept model and can be seen here as well.

Tata Curvv rear spied

While the rear remained shrouded in mystery, indications from the spy shot suggested that this section of the design would resemble the Curvv concept, featuring sleek  LED taillights and an upright tailgate. We can also spot an exhaust pipe, although it could be deception as Tata had earlier confirmed that the electric Curvv will come before the ICE-powered version.

Although this recent set of spy shots didn't divulge any insights into the interior of Tata's SUV-coupe, it is likely to share similarities with the new Nexon and Safari SUVs. The treatment could include a duo of expansive displays, a two-spoke steering wheel housing the backlit 'Tata' emblem, and a touch-sensitive climate control panel.

Considering Tata’s new-found fascination with new interior themes and combinations, the Curvv could also feature variant (Persona) specific interior themes that match the exterior hues.

On the features front, it is anticipated that the Tata Curvv will come equipped with a 10.25-inch digital driver's display (as seen in the Nexon and Nexon EV), 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats, cruise control, and push-button start/stop. Safety-wise, a package comprising up to six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera could be on offer. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as autonomous emergency braking and blind spot assist might also be part of the safety package.

Powertrains

The Tata Curvv will boast the new turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine generating 125PS and 225Nm. While the gearbox choices are yet to be confirmed, one of them could well be the same 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) used in the Nexon facelift. Apart from that, the diesel engine option should also be present for those who want a frugal option.

As for its electric derivative, it’ll boast a claimed range of up to 500km. And while the information regarding the electric powertrain remains somewhat limited, we know it’ll be built on Tata's Gen2 platform. Also, the Curvv EV will arrive before the ICE-powered Curvv.

Expected Pricing and Competitors

You can look forward to the Curvv's arrival in the market sometime potentially around mid-2024, where it could be priced at Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom) for the ICE model. It is poised to be an SUV-coupe alternative in the sea of conventional compact SUVs like the MG Astor, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, Toyota Hyryder and Skoda Kushaq. Its electric avatar will rival the likes of the MG ZS EV.
