The MG Windsor is rightfully one of the most celebrated EVs in the Indian market today, as proven by its consistently strong sales figures since its launch. Maruti, on the other hand, is the Indian brand known for its edge over all others in terms of affordability and they have also entered this domain with the e Vitara. So, will this turn into a shoulder fight between the two? We leave that to time. But what’s hot for now are the five things we found in the MG Windsor that are better than those in the Maruti e Vitara.
The MG Windsor has a HUGE 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display. That’s bigger than any of its rivals in the segment. The Maruti e-Vitara, on the other hand, has a 10.25-inch unit only. What’s mutual, though, is that both support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The MG Windsor EV brings you an ambient lighting spectrum of as many as 256 colours. While it’s not yet confirmed from Maruti’s side, we reckon the spectrum won’t be as vast as the Windsor’s. The e Vitara, however, brings you footwell lighting in addition.
Like the Maruti Grand Vitara, the e Vitara will also offer a one-touch window up/down for the driver’s side only. However, in the Windsor, you have this for all four windows in the car, meaning more convenience.
Now, we have said time and again, that the MG Windsor EV is a car to be chauffeured around in. It probably has one of the best rear seating comforts, with multi-level recline for the rear seats. It bends down to 135 degrees, which is plenty to lounge in on long journeys with elderly passengers or your children in the back seat. The e Vitara can only have its rear seats reclined up to 20 degrees.
This is something that was born with Windsor and is now being extended to other MG vehicles: the Battery as a Service (BaaS) scheme. It means you have to pay for the car’s battery usage separately in instalments, making the upfront purchasing cost of the car much more affordable. The MG Windsor, owing to this scheme, has an aggressive starting price of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and a battery usage fee of Rs 3.9 per km of driving.
All that discussed, MG Windsor’s prices range between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom) with the BaaS and Rs 14 lakh to Rs 16 lakh without it and locks horns with Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 400.
While we expect the Maruti e Vitara to start from a price range of around Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom) and comeptes with the likes of Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, and Hyundai Creta Electric.
To conclude things, it is safe to say thatthe MG Windsor definitely is a value-for-money package when compared with the e Vitara but the e Vitara too has few tricks up its sleeves which might just be enough to justify its premium. To know more about the e Vitara, you can check out this story.
