Deliveries of the XUV400 EV are set to begin in January next year

  • Will offer a claimed range of around 450km and fast charging capabilities

  • 200mm longer than the ICE XUV300.

  • To be priced from around Rs 15 lakh onwards.

Mahindra will premiere the XUV400 Electric SUV in the second week of September. It's Mahindra’s first long-range electric vehicle and first electric SUV. It is expected to launch around January 2023 as a rival to the Tata Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max and MG ZS EV

Previously, spy shots have hinted that the XUV400 will have a similar styling as the XUV300 Electric concept that was showcased at Auto Expo 2020. It’s based on the ICE XUV300 subcompact SUV, but it's not a subcompact offering like the Nexon EV. It is 200mm longer and closer to compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta.

Mahindra is expected to offer the EV with multiple battery sizes with fast charging capabilities and up to 450km of claimed range. Benchmarked against the Nexon EV, it’ll likely get a single-motor, two-wheel-drive setup as standard.

We expect the XUV400 Electric to have an introductory price no higher than Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant. That way, it’ll be eligible under the Union government’s FAME-II scheme for subsidies and other incentives.

The XUV400 Electric will be followed by the XUV.e8 SUV (the electric version of the XUV700) and other EVs underpinned by the ground-up INGLO platform from December 2024 onwards.
