The Tata Punch EV is the first electric vehicle to be based on the carmaker’s ground-up electric platform, called the Acti.ev. That’s no breaking news, and we have even done a proper review, which you can read here. But we finally have had the chance now to put Tata’s latest EV to test in the real-world, finding its true performance, and even its real world range. While you can find the results of the latter by watching this video below, this story focuses on its real-world performance figures.
Although, we won’t just be focusing on the quickest driving mode, but also do a comparison with the performance of its regular modes. But before we do that, a quick spec check:

Long Range |

82 PS/114 Nm |
122 PS/190 Nm |
|
Battery Pack |

|
MIDC-claimed range |

421km |

The Punch EV can be had in two guises: Standard and Long Range. We’ve put the latter to test, which packs a 122PS and 190Nm electric motor, paired with a 35kWh battery pack. It drives the front wheels only and the setup has a claimed range of 421km. Next up, the performance test.

The Punch EV is rather quick for a car its size, as it takes just 9.05 seconds to reach 100kmph. It's pretty swift to reach the quarter mile too, with a time of 16.74seconds, where it almost touches its limited top speed of 134.50 kmph. These figures were obtained by testing the car in its quickest, Sport mode. What do you think the difference will be between the rest? Let’s find out:

+4.26 |

And the answer is – a LOT. Between the quickest Sport mode and the City mode, we witnessed a difference of 4.05 seconds. The gap didn’t increase by a lot when compared to Eco mode, but the overall difference is significant between the performance of the Punch EV’s Sport, City, and Eco drive modes.
But it’s not like the Punch EV is a slouch when driven in City or Eco drive modes. The difference is that you don’t get a similar level of urgency and instant punch that you get in the Sports mode, which explains the delta. So the performance of the City and Eco drive modes are still appropriate for regular city and even relaxed highway usage.
Tata retails the Punch EV from Rs 10.98 lakh to Rs 15.48 lakh (ex-showroom).

It takes on the Citroen eC3, while being an alternative to the Tata Tigor EV and the Tata Tiago EV.
