In the latest edition of Zig performance comparison report, we have lined up the Tata Punch EV and Tata Nexon EV. The job for this report is simple - find out which Tata electric SUV offers better performance and range in the real-world. So without further ado, let’s get cracking.
Before we get to the acceleration figures, here’s a quick look at the specifications both the cars come packing with. For this test, we have brought the Long Range variants of both models.

Tata Nexon EV Long Range |
|
Power (PS) |
122 PS |
145 PS (+ 23 PS) |
Torque (Nm) |
190 Nm |
215 Nm (+ 25 Nm) |
Battery Pack (kWh) |
35 kWh |
40.5 kWh |
Claimed Range |
421 km |
465 km |
On paper, it’s the Nexon EV that is the more powerful out of the two. It also has the larger battery here, helping it eke out more range as well. But can the additional power help the Nexon EV win the acceleration test?
Let’s find out.

Tata Nexon EV Long Range |
|
0-100 kmph |
9.05 seconds |
8.75 seconds |
20 - 80 kmph (Roll-on acceleration) |
4.94 seconds |
5.09 seconds |
Note: Acceleration for both cars tested in Sport mode
Whoa! This was super close to the line. The Nexon EV, with its power advantage, is the quicker car here in our flatout acceleration test to 100 kmph. But a more clearer way to look at real-world performance is in the roll-on acceleration test, where the Punch EV was the quicker one out of the two.
Therefore, in the confines of this particular section, since both cars have scored an equal point, it makes sense to call it a draw. But which one manages to take the trophy in the range test?
Let’s find out.
To keep things fair in the range test, we decided to test out both the cars like how you would drive the car in regular conditions instead of hypermiling. So we set both EVs in Eco mode, re-gen on level 3, seat ventilation and AC set to 22 degrees. And after a day of driving, here’s how much kilometres we racked up after draining out the battery:

|
Claimed Range |
421 km |
465 km |
Real-world Range |
258.6 km |
284.2 km (+ 25.6 km) |
The Tata Nexon EV, with its bigger battery pack, managed to beat the Punch EV in the real-world range test by a fair margin. Also, note that both these models were tested on really hot conditions and they would have performed better in cooler weather.

Ex-showroom Price |
Rs 10.98 lakh to Rs 15.48 lakh |
Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh |
Considering that the performance test is a draw and the Nexon EV managed to go a bit further with its larger battery pack, it wins this test. That being said, the performance and range offered by the Punch EV is commendable and you won’t go wrong with either of these two cars.
