A service is basically done every 5,000 to 10,000 kilometres, depending on the engine type (petrol or diesel), to refresh your car and clean its engine components from the inside. The engine contains hundreds of parts that use the same oil day in and day out to lubricate its insides and prevent friction and wear. The viscosity of the oil depends on heat and fine metal shards that form inside the engine when it is running. Also, the air filter can prevent dust and other particles from entering the engine to an extent but not entirely.
It is necessary for one to change the oil, the oil filter and the air filter of an engine to ensure that the motor is in good working condition and does not drag along the way, which leads to increased fuel consumption. Servicing a car can also solve unknown problems that one is not aware of at times. Also, the engine mounts and other such intricate things may have to be strengthened to make the car perform as good as new.
