Not much to be honest, that is if you are going to stick to the city

One look at the headline and you might be wondering, “Why is Team Zigwheels making this performance numbers comparison so obvious?” But if you were to skip that question and actually think about how close the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V can run to the Yamaha MT-15 V2, the answer is quite close. And some of the results, we weren’t truly expecting them to turn out like this.

Acceleration

Yamaha MT-15 V2

TVS Apache RTR 160 4V

0-60kmph

4.95 seconds

5.34 seconds

0-80kmph

8.50 seconds

9.34 seconds

0-100kmph

14.28 seconds

17.15 seconds

Like we mentioned in the intro, the gap between the two bikes is apparent but not as much within city limits. It is only when you start exploring the highway and ride spiritedly that the MT’s 155cc liquid-cooled mill shows off what it can do. You just need to have the VVA sign pop up and the Yammie will be happy.

Roll-on acceleration

Yamaha MT-15 V2

TVS Apache RTR 160 4V

30-70kmph in 3rd gear

5.85 seconds

6.68 seconds

40-80kmph in 4th gear

7.54 seconds

9.38 seconds

Incredibly, the MT is quite a tractable motorcycle. Sauntering in the city is no biggie for the MT as you can literally just leave it in fifth to do your city bidding. The RTR needs a bit of working the gearbox. But hey, it has a nicer soundtrack to accompany.

Braking

80-0kmph

35.05m

42.28m

60-0kmph

19.79m

24.64m

Braking has never been the Apache’s strong suit and it shows here. The MT stops considerably better than the RTR 160 4V, with better lever feel to accompany. Sadly, both bikes don't come with on dual-channel ABS, which is a big miss in our books for such competent motorcycles.

Fuel efficiency

City

53.32kmpl

Highway

47.94kmpl

48.16kmpl

Fuel tank capacity

12 litres

It is quite commendable that despite dishing out more power, the MT-15’s liquid-cooled mill is able to deliver nearabout the same fuel efficiency scores in both the city and on the highway. The extra fuel-carrying capabilities of the RTR means fuel stops will not be as frequent, a great way to extend your highway stints.
