Loring Air Force Base, Maine. A new motorcycle top speed record was set on a turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa. The record was set by Bill Warner of Florida, who hit a speed of 311.945mph (502km/h) on his turbocharged 1299cc Hayabusa. Faster speeds have been attained by ‘streamliner’ motorcycles but Warner set the fastest speed on a conventional motorcycle.
The previous record for fastest speed was also set by Warner when he first cranked his turbocharged Hayabusa to 278.6mph (448.36km/h) last year. After setting the record Warner said that the taking the bike to 311mph was not the difficult part, but it was the struggle to get the bike to slow down and eventually stop before he ran out of the runway.
According to the Loring Timing Association the fastest open-cockpit motorcycle ever measured is Warner’s turbocharged Hayabusa.
