  • The Tata Gravitas is likely to reach showrooms in September 2020.
  • Notable features over the Harrier include an e-parking brake, captain seats and AC vents for the third-row.
  • It will be offered with a 170PS 2.0-litre diesel engine.
  • MG Hector Plus rival likely to be priced from Rs 15 lakh.

The Tata Gravitas, a 7-seater version of the Harrier, has been a long time coming. This svelte XUV500 and Hector Plus rival made its debut in the country at the Auto Expo 2020 and is expected to reach showrooms by September 2020.  Now, a latest spy shot reveals something interesting that isn't offered in the Harrier. Any guesses?

Rear disc brakes! A test mule has been spotted with the same and this feature isn’t offered in the Harrier, which utilises drum brakes at the rear. Sure, the Harrier does have reassuring brakes, but the presence of rear disc brakes in the Gravitas could mean it could offer better stopping power. Tata Motors will also equip the Gravitas with an electronic parking brake with auto hold function.

The main change in the Gravitas’ design is its side and rear profile courtesy a stepped roof and an upright tail gate to accommodate the third row. While the dashboard remains similar to the Harrier, it now utilises a premium black-creme colour combination. It will also be offered with captain seats for middle occupants like the Hector Plus.

Notable features include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a JBL sound system, drive modes, terrain modes, climate control, cruise control, a semi-digital instrument cluster, steering mounted audio controls and keyless entry with push button start. On the safety front, it will come with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera and traction control.

The Gravitas will be powered by the Harrier’s 170PS 2.0-litre diesel engine that can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter. Power will be sent to the front wheels and there won’t be an all-wheel drive variant on offer anytime soon. Besides this, the Gravitas is also expected to debut a petrol engine at launch and it is likely to be a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit.

The Gravitas is expected to be priced from Rs 15 lakh, putting it in the ballpark of MG’s Hector Plus and Mahindra’s XUV500. Expect all its variants to be priced around Rs 1 lakh more than the Harrier. For more info on Harrier, head here.
