As we have reported in the last week, Volkswagen has been in deep trouble following reports of them using a cheating software that essentially helped their cars pass emissions testing when undergoing a test but drastically increased emissions while being used under normal day-to-day circumstances. The reports, lead by the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA, indicated that cars across the Volkswagen Auto Group would be affected.
Following VW’s announcements, other VW owned companies too have been admitting to using the same software to cheat emissions testing. Skoda has officially announced that about 1.2 million or 12 lakh cars have used this emissions beating software to pass stringent testing norms. The Skoda announcement comes quick on the heels of the VW group announcement that over 5 lakh cars have been affected by the software.
VW GROUP cars in their 2.0-litre diesel engines only used the software, originally made by Bosch for testing purposes mainly across the United States. We also expect other Volkswagen group companies like Spais’s SEAT to follow in Skoda’s footsteps and announce that a few of their cars have been affected too. There have also been shadows cast on the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engines on whether they have also been equipped with the emissions beating software. If found, that could also mean grave issues for the likes of Porsche in the next few years.
